The partnership with San Antonio FC, one of the leading clubs in the second division of U.S. football, offers SV Darmstadt 98 an excellent platform to strengthen its position in the U.S. The goal of the collaboration is to learn from each other both athletically and culturally and to develop joint projects that promote exchange between the two clubs.
Partnership with San Antonio FC
In July 2024, San Antonio FC and SV Darmstadt 98 announced a comprehensive partnership aimed at advancing both clubs athletically and organisationally. As part of this collaboration, both clubs aim for the development and promotion of young players and coaches through corresponding programs and different training methods.
This partnership aligns with the city partnership between San Antonio and Darmstadt, which has existed since 2017 and also promotes exchange in areas such as government, transportation, economy, and culture. The partnership is also intended to strengthen the collaboration between the two cities and further advance social initiatives in their respective markets.
We want to promote a deep intercultural and knowledge exchange in different areas.
Our Goals
The goal of the partnership between SV Darmstadt 98 and San Antonio FC is to foster the development of young players and to promote a deep intercultural and knowledge exchange in areas such as sports science, sports medicine, training science, marketing, sales, media, and innovation.
Additionally, the goal is to learn from each other both athletically and culturally and to develop joint projects that promote exchange between the two clubs. This includes training camps, talent development programs, and knowledge sharing in areas such as club management and sports marketing.
By February 2026 at the latest, SV Darmstadt 98 plans to play a friendly match against San Antonio in Texas.
San Antonio FC
San Antonio FC just completed its ninth season in the USL Championship since the club’s inception in 2016 and will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2025 … Since 2020, SAFC has been the most successful club in the Western Conference, earning four straight playoff appearances and making three consecutive Western Conference semifinals form 2021-2023 … SAFC also secured both the Copa Tejas and Copa Tejas Shield in back-to-back years in 2022 and 2023.
The team experienced its most successful season in club history in 2022, winning both the USL Championship Title and USL Championship Players’ Shield for the first time … the 2022 regular season saw one of the most dominant years in league history, tying a league record for wins with 24, and recording the second-most points in a single season with 77 … the team returned in 2023 and went on to make its third-straight Western Conference semifinal, while setting a new club record with 63 goals scored.
In December of 2015, the City of San Antonio and Bexar County, in partnership with Spurs Sports & Entertainment, announced their purchase of Toyota Field from local businessman Gordon Hartman … in January of 2016, SS&E announced their plans to field a USL Championship franchise in the 2016 season, and were awarded the 31st franchise in the United Soccer League … on February 4, SS&E announced the club name would be San Antonio FC, and also revealed the logo and meaning behind it … the club won its inaugural match 3-0 over Seattle Sounders FC 2 on April 3.
