“0-0 was no setback, but of course we wanted more”

Florian Kohfeldt:

„Even though Magdeburg came here as bottom of the table, we knew they would play their Magdeburg style with a lot of possession. We didn’t want to have a lot of possession in the game, but rather create scoring opportunities through winning the ball and playing quickly behind the defence. Defensively, however, we primarily wanted to close down the centre. Our defensive plan worked very well for a long time. We then won the ball back, but were too sloppy after that and made too many small mistakes. Nevertheless, we had five or six decent chances and two or three great opportunities, some of which went close. Overall, we conceded very little, which is positive. We’re also unbeaten in five matches. Nevertheless, the game doesn’t feel so great. The 0-0 result isn’t a setback, but of course we wanted more.“

Petrik Sander:

„It’s no secret what situation we’re in. We tried to change a few things. What really impressed me today, however, was that we hardly conceded any set pieces, which is one of Darmstadt’s tremendous strengths. In the first few minutes, we played well out from the back. Then Darmstadt changed things up a bit, and it became a clearly open game. We had a few chances, but none of the huge ones. Overall, it was fairly even and pointed towards a 0-0 draw. Unless one team made a serious mistake—and neither of them did. Even the second yellow card didn’t have the impact on the game that would have put any team under pressure. Perhaps we should have played a bit more structured and calmly down the wings. Ultimately, though, we’re very happy to take the point, and we’ve kept a clean sheet for the first time since April. That’s an absolutely positive result.“

Aleksandar Vukotic:

„We knew and expected it to be a tough game, as Magdeburg is a good team. They’re truly a better team than the table suggests. Magdeburg may only have four points, but I think they’ll stay in the league. We had too few chances today, and we didn’t capitalise on them. In these games, it’s important not to lose. A point is fine. We saw that we had a lot of space in the back line. We tried to play long balls. I think we did that well in the first half and created several chances with Marco and Fraser. It’s a point we’ll take with us.“

Patric Pfeiffer:

„I’m disappointed with the result, but we still take the point today. Nevertheless, Magdeburg isn’t your typical bottom-of-the-table team. They’re playing very well, they’re a strong team, and they challenged us hard. In the end, however, we had the clearer chances, but unfortunately, we didn’t convert them. We didn’t play a few counterattacks as well or with as much focus as we have in recent games.“
