Both teams had their moments to take a 1-0 lead – we had the chances through Julian Justvan and Mathias Honsak when he got the ball with his toe. Mainz, on the other hand, were more dangerous than us with their deep balls. Then we go 1-0 behind after what I consider to be a dubious free kick. In the second half, with the score 2-0, our energy level was up and the plug was pulled. We wanted to put everything on one card, but then had little defensive work. The fact that it ends 0:4 hurts even more. Overall it’s a very disappointing day. We have to be realistic. Everything we would like for Darmstadt 98 this season would be a more than great miracle. It will be very, very difficult.”
“It was an extremely difficult game. We had some problems in the first half with their high pressing and second balls. But overall I thought we were more dangerous. We changed things up in the second half and had the momentum on our side. We did very well, especially in the second half, and showed a very good performance. After a convincing 90-minute performance, the Young Lilies secured another three points, finishing with a decisive 4–0 victory that lifts them to sixth place in the standings.

Despite falling behind, Darmstadt secured their second consecutive home win! Darmstadt defeated Energie Cottbus 3-1 (1-1). The home side equalised after conceding an early goal in the four-minute period through Weißhaupt before halftime. Vukotic headed his team into the lead in the second half, before Lührs sealed the victory with the third goal. This home win brings Darmstadt's season total to seven points.
