Paul Fernie: „We are delighted to welcome Benedikt, a highly talented and ambitious goalkeeper, to our team. He has competed at the highest level in the youth system over the past few years and is now ready to make the step into senior football. We will give him the time he needs for his further development and are convinced that he will enrich our goalkeeping team with his skills and potential.“
Benedikt Börner: „It’s a truly wonderful feeling for me to have signed the first professional contract of my career with Darmstadt 98. During the discussions, I felt that the Lilies are the right club for my best possible development. I can hardly wait to start preparing for the upcoming season with my teammates and the coaching staff.“
Börner initially played in the youth system for FC Ingolstadt before joining VfL Wolfsburg’s youth academy in the summer of 2020. The goalkeeper played twelve matches for the Wolves‘ U19 team in the youth league last season and was between the posts in three matches in the DFB Cup. He also guarded the Lower Saxony side’s goal in the 2-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the round of 16 of the U19 championship.
