For many young football fans, 1. FC Nürnberg is now primarily known as a traditional club in the 2nd Bundesliga. But in the 1961/62 season the club played on the European stage for the first time - and quite successfully. With four wins, Nuremberg reached the quarter-finals of the European Cup, where FCN met defending champions Benfica. In the first leg, the Franconians celebrated an impressive 3-1 win in front of a sold-out crowd. But in the second leg, the dream of the semi-finals was dashed - the club was eliminated with a clear 6-0 defeat. Despite the bitter end, the then striker Heinz Strehl made an exclamation mark: with eight goals, he became the competition's top scorer, even if that could hardly be any consolation for missing out on a place in the semi-finals.

A delegation from SV 98 at an NBA game in Paris? What initially seemed a little unrealistic became reality on January 23rd. The background to the visit is relatively easy to explain: Since July 2024, there has been a cooperation agreement between the Lilies, the football club San Antonio FC (SAFC) and Spurs Sports & Entertainment (SS&E). SS&E is the operating company of the US second division team SAFC and the NBA team and five-time champions San Antonio Spurs.

January 27th marked the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp. In memory of the victims of National Socialism, SV Darmstadt 98 organized a memorial walk from Schlossgartenplatz to Dr.-Karl-Heß-Platz. A wreath-laying ceremony including various speeches took place there.
On January 27, 1945, Red Army soldiers liberated the largest German concentration and extermination camp, Auschwitz. Around 1.5 million people were killed here, around a million of them Jews. Auschwitz stands worldwide as a symbol of the Shoah and of the murder of millions, meticulously planned and carried out by Germans. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the camp, we remember those associated with SV 98 who were humiliated, persecuted or murdered under National Socialism.
SV 98 finished its first home game in 2025 without scoring anything. The Lilies lost 1-0 to SC Paderborn after a set-piece goal.
