“Could have been more than just the point”

A wild exchange of blows in the rain in Karlsruhe. The Lilies show great morale against the still unbeaten KSC, equalize two deficits and then even sniff an away win. In the end, the southern Hesse team took a point with them to Darmstadt. We have summarised all the voices about the game for you.

Florian Kohfeldt:

„It’s kind of a strange feeling. Because I don’t know who would like to be congratulated on the point. So congratulations to the spectators who saw a very great game. After 15 minutes the game can be over for the KSC. In these For the first 15 minutes I was worried that we would be overrun, but then we became very stable – with the exception of Karlsruhe’s dream goal. Big credit to the team for getting themselves back together in the first half. In the 70th minute we played an outstanding game – in both directions. We had to lead significantly higher. The last 20 minutes were more balanced again with two top chances for both teams through Lidberg and on the Karlsruhe side through Wanitzek. All in all, we deserved the win a little more. Nevertheless, I’m not dissatisfied with the point against an absolute top team in Karlsruhe. Our development is more than visible. But it would be nice if we could translate our footballing development into three points soon.“

… about the Lily fans:

That was outstanding support from our fans today. I can only say to our fans: We accept this. That helps us extremely.

Christian Eichner:

„We had a very, very good first 15 minutes in which we could have scored a second goal. From the 20th, 25th to the 70th minutes. We were bombarded like we haven’t been for a long time. We didn’t have a lead in a duel, we didn’t have the ball anymore and were slow in our heads. That’s not enough to play in a second division game. The opponent played an outstanding football game for long periods of time. That’s why we’re anything but satisfied today but, what makes this team special this year is that they believe in themselves and know that they can strike at any moment.“

Clemens Riedel:

„If you’re leading 3-2 shortly before the end, then it’s logical that you’re initially disappointed with the result. But it’s certainly not easy away here in Karlsruhe, so it’s a good point for both teams and we can live with the draw. Defensively we obviously have to be more stable. We had a few problems with the ball at the beginning of the game, but later we did really well and created a lot of chances.“

Kai Klefisch:

„It could have been more than the point. But we should be happy with the performance. Especially in the second half. We also deserved to win. We invested a lot, showed morale again and also what was in us and that’s how we can beat anyone. That’s encouraging. We brought a lot of footballing elements to the pitch, and we finally rewarded ourselves from set pieces but we have to improve. The whole team gave everything today, otherwise we would never have come back like this.“
