Match Day Quote:

For me, the "do or die" principle embodies the DFB-Pokal. On Saturday nights, we know exactly what's going on – only victory counts, and I love knockout matches. This competition makes for very special evenings and a unique atmosphere.

The Venue:

The Lohmühle Stadium is one of the few club-owned stadiums in Schleswig-Holstein and is more than just the football stadium of VfB Lübeck, as it has also served as a home to many other clubs. As early as 1988, TuS Hoisdorf played its DFB Cup match against FC Bayern Munich at the Lohmühle in front of 20,000 spectators. In 1999, HSV played its European Cup matches against FC Basel and Trabzonspor at the Lohmühle due to the renovation of its own Volksparkstadion. Two DFB League Cup matches also took place in Lübeck: between Hamburger SV and Hertha BSC (2000) and Werder Bremen and Bayer Leverkusen (2002). In 2011, FC St. Pauli was also forced to relocate after being sanctioned by the DFB and played its home game against FC Ingolstadt 04 in the 2. Bundesliga at the Lohmühle.

Due to renovations, safety restrictions, and the structural condition of some sections with buildings dating back to the 1950s, the Lohmühle’s total capacity has decreased over the years. On Saturday evening, an audience of 9,500 would mean a sell-out.

After 13 unbeaten second-division matches, SV Darmstadt 98 suffered their first defeat this Friday evening. Three unfortunate minutes just before halftime, during which Patric Pfeiffer was sent off and Vincent Vermeij scored twice, paved the way for Dresden's victory. After the match, the focus was primarily on the differing assessments of two very similar incidents by the refereeing team – incidents which both coaches subsequently evaluated identically.
