Defeat in Hoffenheim

First defeat of the preseason. The Lilies lost their dress rehearsal at TSG Hoffenheim 5-1. The game lasted 120 minutes, and after 90 minutes, the scoreboard showed a score of 3-1. Yousuke Furukawa scored for SV 98.

Florian Kohfeldt: „Four of the five goals annoy me a lot. You also have to consider the strength of the opponent, but these goals were more like gifts. The 3-1 after 90 minutes gave me important insights; up until then, it wasn’t a bad test for us, but it wasn’t a great test either. Of course, TSG can add to their depth in other ways than we can. We’ll take the lessons learned against a strong opponent. But I would still say that we’re well prepared for Bochum.“

Early Setback

The Bundesliga team took control of the game from the start, showing much better control of the ball and passing skills. TSG also disrupted the Lilies‘ build-up play early on and forced a mistake in the 9th minute, which Fisnik Asllani used to take the lead after a strong combination. Five minutes later, Isac Lidberg had the chance to equalise, but the Swede was denied by Baumann, who also saved another attempt from Kai Klefisch.

TSG continued to dominate the game, but didn’t create their next good opportunity until the 31st minute: Marcel Schuhen prevented a potential goal from Tim Lemperle with a strong reaction.

SV 98 subsequently enjoyed more possession and was able to push the ball into the opponent’s half more often, without creating any clear opportunities. The Lilies went into the dressing room with a 1-0 deficit.

Bernardo heads in

After the break, it took only five minutes for Hoffenheim to extend their lead. Bernardo rose highest after a corner from Muhammed Damar and headed the ball into the far corner.

After an hour, TSG made a complete lineup change, with the Lilies bringing on four new players. One of them was Fynn Lakenmacher, who narrowly missed pulling one back after a corner in the 68th minute.

The best goal of the game came in the 81st minute. Unfortunately, it was for TSG, Andrej Kramaric scored with a curling shot from around 22 meters. The Lilies‘ response was not long in coming. Yousuke Furukawa tried his luck from 18 meters, but his deflected effort dipped behind goalkeeper Luca Philipp and into the net.

The 3-1 scoreline was the final score after 90 minutes, to which another 30 minutes were added.

Kramaric increases the lead

Before the start of the extra 30 minutes, Florian Kohfeldt made seven substitutions. The newly formed Lilies struggled as a result, only being able to stop Hoffenheim in the penalty area on two occasions by fouling. Kramaric converted both penalties in the 96th and 98th minutes. At the other end, Semih Güler was unlucky with an attempt that hit the post with 15 minutes remaining.

No further goals were scored until the final whistle after 120 minutes.

Aufstellung: Schuhen (C) (91. Brunst) – Lopez (91. Arnold), Maglica (46. Papela), Pfeiffer (91. Riedel), Lidberg (91. Güler), Marseiler (46. Furukawa), Hornby (64. Lakenmacher), Nürnberger (91. Pfister) ,  Akiyama (91. El Idrissi), Klefisch (64. Klassen), Vukotic (91. Dreskovic).

Goals: 1-0 Fisnik Asllani (9′), 2-0 Bernardo (50′), 3-0 Kramaric (81′), 3-1 Furukawa (83.), 4-1 Kramaric (96′ pen), 5-1 Kramaric (98’pen)
