The Lilies got off to a lively start and had their first opportunity in the game with a Lakenmacher header after just a few minutes. The FSV had one or two transition actions that caused alarm: Celik’s finish in the 14th minute whizzed just past the goal. Darmstadt controlled the game overall, with the action took place mainly in the FSV half. A Riedel free kick hit the crossbar (22′). Seven minutes later it became dangerous again, after a loose ball in the penalty area, Riedel again aimed the ball a little too high.
The home team scored after 34 minutes. Following a Darmstadt loss of the ball, the Bornheimers quickly switched gears and Celik, scored after a cross pass. After 37 minutes, Latteier had the opportunity to make it 2-0, but Niemczycki made a strong save.
There wasn’t much newsworthy happening in the second half; chances were scarce in the first half hour. Things got dangerous after 72 minutes, Memisevic sprinted towards the goal on a counterattack, but Schuhen was able to parry. The Lilies almost equalised in the 80th minute, but Stojilkovic missed a sharp Mehlem cross by just centimeters. Stojilkovic had the chance to level after 88 minutes, but maneuverered the ball past the box from around ten meters.
