Diary: “Here’s to a new one!”

In this year's summer preparation, the Lilies are taking part in two training camps. At the end of June, head coach Torsten Lieberknecht's team spent a few intensive days in the Black Forest, and since July 15th, SV 98 has set up camp again in the Palatinate. Until July 21st, the visitors from south Hesse will be visiting the Hotel Krone in Herxheim again and will be completing their sessions on the TV Hayna sports field. In our diary we take you through the days in the 2nd training camp.

"Here's to a new one!"

“We go there every summer now because we like it so much.” During the current holiday season, this sentence is heard more often from people who visit their favourite vacation spot and often even the same accommodation year after year. Why go other ways when everything fits in one place? The Lilies have a similar situation with their domicile in the southern Palatinate, more precisely in Herxheim-Hayna. The only difference is that instead of relaxation, the focus here is on hard work. It is the fourth year in a row that the SV 98 has stayed at the “Hotel Krone” in order to gradually work on the fine-tuning for the upcoming season. “Here’s to a new one,” was Clemens Riedel’s short message after the bus had dropped off the entourage from southern Hesse at the hotel.

Riedel is one of the players who were there for the inaugural visit in July 2021. The central defender was 17 years old at the time and reported in an interview with sv98.de about the sore muscles from the Palatinate. Riedel is now approaching his 21st birthday and is part of a group of 29 players who have made their way to Herxheim-Hayna. Only Fabian Holland is missing due to his knee injury. On the day of arrival, the first of numerous sessions was on the agenda in the afternoon; eight training sessions are planned until Friday before the test against 1. FC Saarbürcken on Saturday.

The SV 98 is likely to be accompanied by lots of sunshine and high temperatures; on Monday the thermometer already climbed to 30 degrees. Everything is set up for sweaty sessions in a familiar environment. „Here’s to a new one!“ The Lilies in Herxheim-Hayna.
