„Everything in our own hands“ | Fan team with goal spectacle

In a media roundtable on Wednesday (April 16), Andreas Müller spoke about, among other things, his first time playing in the double-six position with Fabian Nürnberger. He also answered journalists' questions about his personal goals and the team's goals for the remainder of the season. The fan team also won a spectacular 4-3 away game. We report on these and other topics related to SV Darmstadt 98 in our weekly column "Lilien Across the Board."

+++ "To leave no room for doubt" +++

Andreas Müller is looking ahead to the hottest phase of the season with confidence. With five games left in the 2. Bundesliga, SV Darmstadt 98 has established a solid starting position in the fight to avoid relegation. „We have everything in our own hands to avoid relegation. Our goal is to break the 40-point mark to put an end to any doubts,“ emphasised the 24-year-old. With a mixture of enthusiasm, commitment, and self-confidence, Müller and the Lilies want to do everything they can in the final weeks of the season to make their plans for the second division clear early on.

+++ Lots of working time and a new colleague +++

Müller has been one of the Lilies‘ long-standing players this season. He has already played in 31 matches across all competitions, something he greatly values: „My goal is always to be on the pitch. That’s why I’m all the more pleased that I’ve been used so often this season.“ Last Saturday (April 12), Müller was again in the starting eleven for the away game against Hertha BSC – for the first time alongside Fabian Nürnberger in the central defensive midfield. A duo that hit it off right away. „It was a lot of fun playing with Fabi in Berlin. He’s technically strong and extremely versatile,“ said Müller, describing his midfield colleague.

+++ Spectacle for the fan team +++

What a comeback from the SV Darmstadt 98 fan team! The „second second team“ secured a spectacular 4-3 away win against SKG Bickenbach II in the District League C last Sunday (April 13th). The match got off to a fast start: The hosts took a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute. But the Lilies responded immediately – three minutes later, they equalised at 1-1. The score remained the same at halftime.

After the restart, the game really picked up pace: Bickenbach scored again early (50th minute) to take a 2-1 lead. But the „second second team“ showed morale, determination, and their strongest moment of the game. Within ten minutes, the Lilies turned the game around with three goals to make it 4-2. Although Bickenbach narrowed the gap to 3-4 shortly before the end, the Lilies threw themselves into every possession and defended their narrow lead throughout.

With this away win, the SV 98 fan team maintains third place in the Kreisliga C and will return to action at 3pm on Sunday (27 April) after a well-deserved Easter break at home against SV Croatia Griesheim II.

+++ U17 with thrilling draw +++

Last Saturday (April 12), the SV Darmstadt 98 U17 team experienced a thrilling 3-3 away draw against SV Sandhausen’s U17 team. The game didn’t start particularly well: In the 28th minute, the young Lilies went behind. However, a response wasn’t long in coming: just three minutes later, SV 98 equalised and turned the game around to 2-1 in the 38th minute. Shortly before the break in the 44th minute, the home side levelled the score at 2-2 at halftime.

The game slowed down a bit after the break, but the final phase was once again full of action: In the 81st minute, Darmstadt scored again to take a 3-2 lead, but it only lasted a few minutes. Two minutes later, SVS equalised again, making the final score 3-3.

The draw keeps the U17s in third place in the DFB-Nachwuchsliga (German Youth League). Before the B-Juniors take a well-deserved break, the Lilies will play a friendly at home against the U17s of TSV Schott Mainz on Wednesday (April 16, 3:30pm).

+++ U19 loses in front of home crowd +++

The U19s faced the same fate as the U17s on Saturday (April 12) against SV Sandhausen – albeit at home and with different final scores: The U19s lost 3-1 to SV Sandhausen. The game began well for SV 98, taking a 1-0 lead at a crucial psychological moment just before halftime. However, the U19s completely lost the start of the second half, conceding three goals within four minutes immediately after the restart (48th, 49th, 52nd). The young Lilies were unable to recover from this.

The defeat sees the Darmstadt U19s slip to fifth place in the DFB Youth League. After a weekend without a game, the U19s have a chance to make amends on Wednesday (April 23rd, 7:30pm) in the Hessen Cup against the U17s of VFL Kassel.

+++ Nassim qualifies for the intermediate round +++

In the Virtual Bundesliga, eLilie Nassim „Nassada“ Dahman has qualified for the intermediate round of the 2024/25 Grand Final in the VBL Singles Championship. In four thrilling matches in the so-called „Swiss System,“ he had to win at least two to achieve this. And the evening started well for the Darmstadt native: He won the first game clearly 8:3. After that, however, things became exciting: After two losses in a row, Nassim found himself with his back against the wall and had to win the last game to avoid elimination. The last remaining eLilie, who was fighting for the title in the Singles Championship, didn’t let the pressure bother him and won the final game comfortably 6:1. With these two wins, Nassim has also qualified for the intermediate round, which will take place next Thursday (April 17).
