Fabian Holland extends his contract with the Lilies
The long-time team captain remains on board: Fabian Holland and SV 98 have prematurely extended his contract, which was due to expire at the end of the season. The defender and the Lilies will thus enter their twelfth season together in 2025/26.
Paul Fernie: „Fabian Holland is the epitome of absolute identification with the club. He is a true personality on and off the pitch, with the Lilies at heart. Although this season hasn’t gone as he and we would have imagined for Fabi, we are nevertheless convinced that he can help us in the coming season. We are confident that he will be fit again soon and then be able to hit the ground running in the summer preseason at the latest.“
Fabian Holland: „After a difficult year for me personally, this contract extension is a very special one. I see it as a vote of confidence in me, and at the same time, it is further motivation to be able to help the team on the pitch again as soon as possible. It has always been my wish to continue wearing the Lilies jersey and to continue the years of shared experience. I still have ambitious goals and am very optimistic that more games for SV 98 will follow in the foreseeable future.“
In 2014/15, Holland moved to Darmstadt on loan from Hertha BSC and has been a permanent member of the club since 2015. The left-footer, who missed the first half of the season due to a cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament tear and is currently training individually, has made 296 competitive appearances for the South Hesse club to date, making him one of the most capped players in the club’s history. Holland, who has been captain since the second half of 2019, has twice helped the Lilies achieve promotion to the Bundesliga and, in 2015/16, also helped them avoid relegation from the top flight.
