Glimmer of hope

Despite the meagre number of points and the long winless streak, there is still hope for SV 98. The gap to the relegation place is “only” five points. With 27 points still to be awarded, anything is still possible. In addition, FC Bayern has not been able to win any of its last four away games. There were no points in Leverkusen, Rome and Bochum and Thomas Tuchel’s team couldn’t get beyond a draw at SC Freiburg either. The last time there were four away games without a win across all seasons was in 2015.

History

The first leg between Darmstadt and Bayern Munich was truly historic. With the 0:8, which was painful from Darmstadt’s point of view, the records tumbled. Three sendings off in the first 45 minutes (Kimmich, Gjasula, Maglica) meant a new record. While SV 98 held a strong 0-0 lead until the half-time break, FCB managed a real goal festival after the break and suffered the worst Bundesliga defeat in the Darmstadt club’s history.

As a Lily fan, you prefer to remember the 13th matchday of 1978, when the only point win so far was against Munich. At 1-1, Uwe Hahn equalized Paul Breitner’s lead with his late goal in the 89th minute. Hahn’s goal was also voted goal of the month for November 1978.

Record champions confident against bottom teams

Bayern Munich always presents itself strongly against the bottom of the table in the upper house. FCB have not lost any of their last 29 Bundesliga games against bottom teams (26 wins, 3 draws). In addition, the second in the table was able to win all of the last 16 duels of this type. The last defeat against a team bottom of the table was almost exactly 16 years ago. In March 2008, the Champions League quarter-finalists lost 2-0 at Energie Cottbus.

Outstanding offense

Thomas Tuchel’s team is the measure of all things when it comes to the offensive department. The Munich team has already marked a whopping 73 goals this season. That’s ten more compared to Bayer Leverkusen’s goal tally. Statistically speaking, the reigning champions have numerous top values: most big chances (75), most shots (490), most goals from set pieces (16), most headed goals (15) and most goals outside the penalty area (8).

Chasing Lewandowski's goal record

Of course, Harry Kane stands out in attack. The summer newcomer is having an outstanding debut season and currently has 30 goals and eight assists. With nine games remaining, Robert Lewandowski’s goal record of 41 goals is within absolute reach. In the first half of the season, the Englishman scored 13 times against the remaining nine opponents.

Pre-loaded

Bartol Franjic saw his fourth yellow card in the 2-0 defeat in Leipzig. He thus joins four other predisposed Lilien players. Jannik Müller, Christoph Zimmermann, Fabian Holland and Klaus Gjasula also have four warnings to their name. A fifth yellow card would result in a game ban.

Former clubs.

The meeting with the old club is on the agenda for two Lilies this weekend. Thomas Isherwood played for FCB from 2015 to 2018. First for the U19s (47 competitive games) and later for the Bayern second team (18 competitive games). The Head of Organisation for the Licensed Player Department, Michael Stegmayer, also meets his old club. From 2001 to 2006 he played in the colours of the record champions for the U19 and second team.
