SV Darmstadt 98 is hoping for its first win of the second half of the season on Saturday (February 15th/1pm). And Eintracht Braunschweig seems to suit the Lilies well. At least that was the case in the past. SV 98 has always been able to score points in the last eight meetings between the two clubs. The South Hessians won full points four times, and the duel with BTSV ended in a draw four times – including in the first leg in the Merck Stadium at Böllenfalltor (1-1). The last away win at the Eintracht Stadium dates back to the first half of the 2022/23 season. At that time, the Lilies won 1-0 thanks to a late goal from Oscar Vilhelmsson.

A strong performance...

…Eintracht Braunschweig showed last weekend against Karlsruher SC. But that doesn’t just mean the 2-0 away win, which allowed Braunschweig to score three points for the first time after eight games without a win. No, the team’s running performance was also strong. The entire team covered an impressive 124 kilometers on the last matchday, 5.5 kilometers more than any other team in the 2nd Bundesliga on matchday 21. With 124 kilometers covered, the Braunschweig team also set their own season record.

The waiting…

…on the first win of the second half of the season. And a hit of your own. The longing is great – both among the team and coaching staff as well as among all Lilien fans. Because Darmstadt’s last three-pointer was already six match days ago. SV 98 was able to achieve a fantastic 5-1 home win against 1. FC Kaiserslautern. It is exactly this offensive power that SV Darmstadt 98 wants back. The Darmstadt team has not scored their own goal for three games. The wait should be over towards Braunschweig.

Security

A stable defence can make a huge difference in football. This is also shown by Eintracht Braunschweig. While they conceded a total of 15 goals after four games in the first half of the season and held the red lantern, things are looking much better after the start of the second half of the season. Against the same opponents, the Lower Saxony team only had to accept three more goals. Only Köln has conceded fewer goals in this period so far. They are also the ones who were able to inflict Eintracht’s only defeat in the second half of the season so far.

The best tacklers

SV Darmstadt 98 is the strongest team in the 2nd Bundesliga. The Lilies win 53 percent of all duels. By the way, the two teams with the strongest duels in the competition will meet on Saturday. Because the Lions are also doing well: with a duel rate of 52 percent, Eintracht Braunschweig is lurking just behind the southern Hesse team in these statistics.

5 New Faces

Braunschweig used the winter break effectively to tie one or two players to their club. In the end, five players moved to Eintracht, all of whom played from the start in the last game against Karlsruher SC. For example, while new goalkeeper Ron-Thorben Hoffmann kept a clean sheet, newcomer Lino Tempelmann scored the 2-0 winner, his second goal for Lower Saxony.

Ex-Lilien

Next Saturday there will be a reunion between Sebastian Polter and SV Darmstadt 98. In the Lilies‘ first division season last year, the striker wore the Lilies‘ jersey nine times from January to the summer and prepared one goal. The 33-year-old has played 16 games this season at Braunschweig and collected three assists.

Change of sides

Ten years. That’s a damn long time in the football business. That’s how long Darmstadt’s assistant coach Darius Scholtysik was on the sidelines as an assistant coach at Eintracht Braunschweig. The moment of walking into the Eintracht Stadium should seem familiar to him. On Saturday he will try to score points not with the blue-yellow, but with the blue-white…

Danger of yellow/red card

Fabian Nürnberger will be missing from the Lilies in Braunschweig due to a red card. Aleksandar Vukotic (9) and Philipp Förster (4) have previous cautions.

Overall Record:
Games Wins Draws Losses Goals
Home 13 6 5 2 24:15
Away 12 2 4 6 8:21
Overall 25 8 9 8 32:36
