Figures & facts: The top facts about the Heidenheim game

Next Sunday (April 28th/7:30pm) SV Darmstadt 98 will face fellow promoted team 1. FC Heidenheim. After Torsten Lieberknecht's team finally celebrated another victory in the Rhineland last week, they should also be able to do it at home this week. With a win of their own and some help, the Heidenheimers could stay in the league three match days before the end. But before the Lilies meet Frank Schmidt and “his” Heidenheimers, you will find all the important facts about the game here. What gives hope for the second win in a row? What are the strengths of the people of Baden-Württemberg? And which lily became a professional in Heidenheim? You can find out in our top facts about the game.

Goal-rich first game

The 15,000 spectators on the Ostalb saw a high-scoring game in December, in the end the Lilies had to admit defeat to the hosts 2-3. After Jan Schöppner had put SCH in the front shortly before half-time, the Lilies turned the game around through Tim Skarke and a Heidenheim own goal. But unfortunately the joy in the guest block didn’t last very long. With two goals from Patrick Mainka within three minutes, Schmidt’s team turned the game around again and ultimately brought the narrow lead over the finish line.

Only one away defeat since the beginning of December

The Heidenheimers were able to score points in seven of the last eight away games and only lost the game at FC Augsburg. Since the beginning of December 2023, there have been five draws in FCH’s away games, including most recently in Bochum (1:1) and Stuttgart (3:3).

Heidenheimer set-piece strength

The Lilies‘ backline has to be particularly careful in set-piece situations for Heidenheim. They already showed in the first leg how good they are with dead balls, and the statistics also show that. With 15 goals from set pieces, FCH is in fourth place in the league; the Baden-Württemberg team were able to score almost 35 percent of their goals this way. The newcomer in the running distance area can be found a little further up in the statistics. With 3,612.7 kilometers, the Heidenheimers covered the most meters in the league.

Suspension Threat

Torsten Lieberknecht doesn’t have to do without any suspended players on this 31st matchday, although Jannik Müller still has four yellow cards. On the other hand, Heidenheim has to replace right-back Omar Traore, who received his fifth yellow card in the game against Leipzig in the 90+8 minute. Tim Kleindienst and Jan-Niklas Beste each have four yellow cards.

Encounter with the old club

Tim Skarke is a native of Heidenheim. He spent almost his entire youth at 1. FC Heidenheim from 2008 onwards, and he also celebrated his professional debut in his hometown. From 2015 to 2019 he was a member of the first team squad and played a total of 70 competitive games for FCH.

Away 12 1 3 8 9:21
