“First half was good, second half too passive”

A late goal meant the points were shared in Florian Kohfeldt's head coach debut. We have summarised the voices about the game for you.

Florian Kohfeldt:

„It was an eventful game. We played a good first half with a lot of control, had a decent number of chances to score and I’ve already seen some of what we’ve trained in the week. We didn’t win the ball that many times, but we were absolutely stable defensively and we deserved to lead, regardless of the situation. I was happy with the first half. We didn’t start so well in the second half, we had chances against us straight away, which unsettled us a bit the first time. Then we make it 2-0, for me a goal that was unfortunately disallowed. After the goal was disallowed, it seemed as if we were no longer attacking properly and we were no longer as clear in possession as we were before. That’s completely normal after all the things that have happened in the past. That’s why it’s so important that we look forward. In the end, it’s a fair draw in various places or could have tipped in another direction.“

Daniel Scherning:

„There are four things I would like to get rid of. Yesterday I found it a little questionable that a 25-year-old referee would referee such an important game. When the score was 0-1 he had to stop the game, everyone tried to intervene. The referee didn’t understand it. Then there’s the stupid rule, which the referee can’t do anything about, that I get a red card because I’m three meters on the field. But my team showed a great reaction and played a great second half. We were a little lucky that the second goal was taken back, but we also had two goals. We always believed in it, fought like lions and invested a lot and we finally got something countable.“

Marcel Schuhen:

„In terms of results, we are disappointed because we wanted to win the game. The first half was good, in the second half we were a little too passive at times. As far as the issues that I raised after the Elversberg game were concerned, there was a huge difference today. The boys suffered in the second half, we had to defend a lot of set pieces and blocked a lot of balls. Basically, the coach gave us a very good plan, which we implemented really well, especially in the first half with the lead behind us, the footballing plan was no longer there after the break because we naturally wanted to defend the result. We then fell deeper and defended it well, but unfortunately we managed to make it 1-1 But we can build on a lot of positive things from the first half. Now we have to continue working on the automatisms.“

Sergio Lopez:

„In the first half we were better, had possession of the ball and had chances to score. But we have to keep it that way throughout the game. Unfortunately, the second half didn’t go the way we had imagined, but unfortunately football is like that sometimes. At 1-0, we were on the counterattack and I didn’t even see what was behind me. Of course I’m happy about my goal, but I’m not really happy because we only got one point.“

After the match, the focus was primarily on the differing assessments of two very similar incidents by the refereeing team – incidents which both coaches subsequently evaluated identically.
