First point of the season: Lilies denied the win

The Lilies scored their first point of the season at the Bölle, even if the three points were deferred. SV 98's home game against 1. FC Nürnberg ends 1:1 (1:0). Lidberg had shot the home team into the lead in the first half before the guests equalised out of nowhere.

In the home game against 1.FC Nürnberg, the home team had more of the game in the early stages and kept getting closer to the visitors‘ goal. New signing Isac Lidberg scored the first shot, but he dragged his effort wide of the near post on 9 minutes.

The crowd at the Bölle rose to their feet on 15 minutes in expectation but keeper Reichert just steered Killian Corredor’s impressive shot over the crossbar. After the following corner it became dangerous again, but Lidberg was off target again.

In the 23rd minute the spell was finally broken: Fynn Lakenmacher played the ball around the corner into Lidberg’s path, the Swede ran away from Robin Knoche, remained ice cold in front of the goal and lashed the ball in to make it 1-0.

It took until the 35th minute for the visitors to register their first attempt. Castrop broke clear of the defence but from a tight angle, he was denied by an outstretched hand from Marcel Schuhen. There was still time for the Lilies to respond, Corredor had the ball taken away from him at the last moment in the 40th minute and seconds later Fynn Lakenmacher was denied. However, Castrop at the other end failed to beat Schuhen. The Lilies headed into the interval with a deserved lead.

Three minutes after the restart, Lidberg almost increased their lead: after a long ball from Paul Will, he beat his opponent in the penalty area and narrowly missed the far corner from an acute angle. Shortly afterwards, Paul Will got the chance with a free kick from a good position, but his attempt was turned away by Reichert. The 98ers now have chances almost every minute, unfortunately without any further success at first.

Out of the blue, the visitors were level and it was a good goal. Sevcik who had just arrived as a substitute clipped the ball over Schuhen from outside the area to end a fluid but rare attack from Der Club. However, that setback didn’t put the Lilies off their stride and they came forward again in search of the goal to take them back in front.

Reichert saved the visitors again on 83 minutes. A free kick wasn’t cleared and the ball fell for Matej Maglica but the keeper reacted quickly to turn the ball behind. In almost the last play of the game, the ball was cutback to Fabian Nürnberger who saw his shot blocked by defenders. Despite all their efforts, there was to be no winning goal but a first point of the season was registered.
