Flag Day on the Bölle | Arania celebrates professional debut

Young player Asaf Arania was able to experience a very special moment at the Lilies' away game in Wolfsburg. In the 85th minute, Torsten Lieberknecht substituted the U19 player; it was the first Bundesliga minutes for the 18-year-old right-back. For the last home game of this Bundesliga season, the Südkurve has thought of something special again: “Flag home game day” has been declared for Sunday (12.05/3.30pm). In addition, the second team was able to celebrate a very narrow success last weekend. You can find out all this in our weekly section “Lilies across the Board”.

+++ Asaf Arania celebrates professional debut +++

In the last issue of Lilien querbeet we congratulated our U19 talent Asaf Arania on his squad debut. And just a week later we can once again congratulate our 18-year-old right-back. In the away game of SV Darmstadt 98, Arania found herself in the Lilies‘ matchday squad again. But that’s not enough. In the 85th minute of the game, Torsten Lieberknecht gave the signal to come on, a few moments later a green number 49 flashed on the scoreboard and Arania entered the lawn of the Volkswagen Arena. It was his Bundesliga debut. „I’ve had fun with him in training over the last few weeks,“ said Torsten Lieberknecht, explaining the U19 player’s commitment last Saturday. The young man with Israeli roots was also very proud of his first professional minute via Instagram. „Very happy to make mine 1st Bundesliga debut!“ Arania wrote on his account.

+++ South stand calls for flag day +++

“Hello Lilien fans, we are calling for the last home game (…) for the big flag day at the Bölle. Because despite assured relegation, we will of course continue to hold up the blue and white lily flag in the future and that is what we need to demonstrate on Sunday,” says the South Stand’s announcement on its homepage. No matter whether big or small, whether blue, white or blue-white: bring all your flags with you to the stadium on Sunday against Hoffenheim! And let’s celebrate the last Bundesliga home game again in blue and white. By the way: This week you get 20 percent off all flags in the Lilien fan shop from Friday to Sunday.

+++ Second Team with a last-minute win +++

The SV Darmstadt 98 fan team made things really exciting last Sunday afternoon (May 5th). It wasn’t until the third minute of added time that Tim Kabisch scored the 2-1 winner for the Lilies. With the home win against the second representative of Spvgg Seeheim-Jugenheim, the SVD was able to extend its winning streak to three games. This means that the second team is still in third place in the district league C Darmstadt. Coach Andreas Degenhardt’s team continues on Saturday (11.05/5 p.m.), when SV 98 will face VfR Eberstadt away. The game is played in Nußbaumallee in Eberstadt. With 31 points, the home team from VfR are in the relegation battle and are currently in 14th place.

+++ Happy Birthday, Steve Kroll and Florian Bauer! +++

Two Lilies can be congratulated again this week: Our U19 goalkeeping coach and coordinator for the interface area between the goalkeepers of the youth performance centre and the professional area, Steve Kroll, celebrated his 27th birthday on Tuesday (May 7th). Also on Tuesday, Florian Bauer was also able to celebrate his day. The Lilies‘ rehabilitation coach was 44 years old. Steve and Flo, we wish you a happy birthday and good luck and health!

Darmstadt's 2-1 defeat at Karlsruher SC also ended any remaining theoretical hopes the South Hessian club had of finishing the season in the top three. The loss at the Wildpark stadium served somewhat as a symbol for the past few weeks, during which SV 98 had only managed one point from five matches since the international break in March. Following the game on Sunday afternoon, the Darmstadt players addressed the assembled media representatives with mixed feelings.

A bitter end in Karlsruhe: After 90 entertaining minutes in which both teams sought salvation in attack, Darmstadt suffered a narrow defeat. The final score was 2-1 after a late goal from the home side, following Isac Lidberg's earlier equaliser.
