“Fought until the last second”

Back to South Hesse without points: The Lilies lost 1-0 to Eintracht Braunschweig. What do the Darmstadt protagonists say about the defeat? How do Florian Kohfeldt and Daniel Scherning classify the 90 minutes in the Eintracht Stadium? We have summarised all the voices about the game for you.

Florian Kohfeldt:

„Congratulations to Daniel and Braunschweig on the win. For me it wasn’t a deserved win. It was a game to which my team have gone down to the bare bones in terms of personnel. Towards the end, with five central defenders – three of them at the front – we fought against it with everything we had on the pitch and tried to get the one point. Braunschweig had a chance in the first half, but we had a huge chance through Papela, whose shot hit the crossbar. After conceding the goal And the yellow-red position was extremely difficult in the context of the game. Great praise to my team for the willingness and emotional performance. We fought until the last second and were ready to fight back. That’s why we’re very disappointed that we didn’t get the point.“

Daniel Scherning:

„Thank you for the congratulations. The opponent started differently than we expected. We had good control in the first half, but Darmstadt had the better chance with the ball hitting the crossbar. We, in turn, could have countered immediately afterwards. After the break, the game tipped our way with a 1-0 lead. However, after the yellow-red card, we lacked the determination and consistency to go for the second goal. Then it became uncomfortable against the long balls from Darmstadt. They’ve had a shot at the crossbar and we’ve been lucky. But we threw ourselves into everything and invested everything. We want to stay in the league and we’ve shown that today.“

Marcel Schuhen:

„It was a close game in which Braunschweig perhaps had the more dangerous moments. Nevertheless, Braunschweig also had the necessary luck in their current phase when their defenders turned away and the balls were deflected onto the crossbar. In our case, the defender turns away, the ball goes through his legs and then into the goal. In retrospect, these are decisive moments in the game. Our reaction after the yellow-red card was good. We tried everything, but were not rewarded. But we have the difficult situation. We accepted it and weren’t above playing long balls and throwing everything in. Unfortunately, we felt like we were penalised in every situation. We’ll never use the failures as an excuse. Unfortunately, it was a small moment that decided the matter.

Marco Thiede:

„We got into the game quite well and followed our plan. It’s clear that you don’t play tiki-taka in a phase like this, but we still had our opportunities. We just have to use one of them to get a positive feeling. Unfortunately, we’re currently missing the last bit of luck that the ball slips in when Papela or Corredor has a chance and doesn’t hit the crossbar. Balls like that just went in in the first half of the season. Nevertheless, of course we concede a stupid goal. We don’t have to talk around the fact that the current phase is not a good one. But I’m completely convinced of the team’s absences. Because it’s not easy for us to replace all of these players, but we don’t look at the situation and the table naively, but we have enough quality to score points again in the coming weeks.
