Preparation for the coming season continues. The next stop in the Lilies‘ test game calendar is the PSD Bank Arena on Bornheimer Hang. The match between FSV Frankfurt and SV Darmstadt 98 will take place there this Wednesday (July 10th) at 7pm. The last time the two clubs met in a friendly was in 2019. +++ Lilies return: Zwote test game in a historic venue +++
Next Sunday (July 14th) the fan team of SV Darmstadt 98 will meet a selection team from TU Darmstadt – and in a historic venue for the Lilies. Kick-off is at 11am in the neighboring university stadium. This once served as a venue for SV 98 in the years after the Second World War until the early 1970s. It was exactly there that the foundations for the club’s further development and regional fame were laid. After a successful time in the university stadium, the sports club finally moved to Böllenfalltor, where it is still based today. The university stadium is a piece of Lilien history – and will be brought to life again this weekend with Lilien football when the „Zwote“ invites you to a test match. Tickets for the game are available online. They can be picked up in the fan shop at Bölle (opening hours: Wednesday to Friday from 12pm to 6pm and during the season opening on Saturday). As an alternative option, you can purchase tickets directly at the entrance to the university stadium from 9:45am on the day of the game.
+++ New week – new birthdays +++
Rüdiger Fritsch (63 years old)
Last week we reported in “Lilies across the Board” that July is a special month for celebration and joy. This is how the birthdays continue this week. This Wednesday (July 10th) we congratulate our President Rüdiger Fritsch on his 63rd birthday. Together with the Lilies, Fritsch has come a long way: During his presidency, which began in 2012, SV 98 rose from the 3rd division to the Bundesliga. Fritsch also worked with his colleagues on the executive committee to establish the Lilies in professional football – both on and off the pitch. The Merck Stadium at the Böllenfalltor was rebuilt and construction was completed with the completion of the new main stand in 2023. In addition, a functional building was created which contains the entire office and a wing for the team as well as a fan and ticket shop. Congratulations on your special day, dear President! We wish you only the best and a wonderful day.
Fabian Holland (34 years old)
Tomorrow, Thursday (July 11th), we will celebrate the 34th birthday of our captain Fabian Holland. Holland has been active for the Lilies for ten years now – initially he was on loan for a year, and since 2015 he has been an integral part of the club. The Berlin native experienced both ups and downs with the people of Darmstadt. Particularly noteworthy: He was promoted to the Bundesliga twice with SV 98. We congratulate our captain on his special day and wish him a speedy recovery. We and certainly all Lilien fans are looking forward to hopefully seeing you on the field again soon, Fabi!
Oliver Posniak (67 years old)
Midfielder Oliver Posniak is still in the Lilies‘ history books. He was active for Darmstadt 98 for nine years and played a total of 342 games. This means he still takes third place in the list of players with the most appearances for SV 98. He began his journey at SVD in 1980 when Posniak moved from FSV Frankfurt to the then league rivals at the Böllenfalltor. With head coach Werner Olk’s team he managed to get promoted to the Bundesliga, where he was later used in 33 games and also scored his only Bundesliga goal in the top division. Posniak was also one of the Lilies‘ regular players in subsequent seasons and even served as the team’s captain. He never played fewer than 33 games per season. We congratulate Oliver on his 67th birthday and would like to thank him for the years we spent together. We wish all the best!
