Fynn Lakenmacher in Portrait
The first newcomer for the 2024/25 season is striker Fynn Lakenmacher. The 24-year-old comes from a very successful handball family and played in the defensive midfield in the U19. We took a closer look at our new attacker and would like to introduce you to Fynn.
A footballer from a real handball family? This description absolutely applies to Fynn Lakenmacher. The 24-year-old will be attacking for Torsten Lieberknecht’s team starting next season, but his family prioritised playing with the hand. Grandpa Wolfgang was a handball legend in the GDR, twice winning the championship with SC Magdeburg, father Sven played as a left winger in Magdeburg and Großwallstadt. With the German national handball team he came fifth at the Olympics in Sydney.
Fynn still decided to keep the ball at his feet and the anticipation for his new club is already great: “I had very good discussions with those responsible, especially with the coach. I was also impressed by the great conditions, and at the same time everything here in Darmstadt seemed very authentic. In addition, Darmstadt 98 is a traditional club whose home games are always sold out.”
The 1.88 meter tall attacker is a child of the north, although he is now moving from 1860 Munich to southern Hesse. Lakenmacher was born in Lübbecke and was trained in the youth ranks of Hannover 96. For his final A-youth year, the beefy striker moved to TSV Havelse, where he also made his debut in the men’s division. The 2021/22 season was his first third division season. Although he was unable to stay in the league with the small club from Lower Saxony, Lakenmacher then went south to 1860 Munich.
“Hello, I’ve already gotten into the habit. You can’t avoid it in Munich – and you use it to greet and say goodbye!“ said the right-footed player in an interview with Transfermarkt.de after his move to Giesing. Now it is important to retrain quickly; in Hesse they say “Gude”. Fynn is familiar with changes; in the U19 Bundesliga, the current striker still played in defensive midfield for Havelse.
Welcome to Darmstadt, Fynn!
