Goals Galore at the Bölle

The perfect end to the home game in 2024! SV 98 wins 5:1 (2:0) against 1. FC Kaiserslautern. The home team dominated the game from the start and at times went into a frenzy. Corredor (33rd, 87th), Hornby (45th, 73rd) and Marseiler (62nd) scored at the Böllenfalltor to give the fans an entertaining evening in the Merck Stadium.

The Lilies started the game against 1. FC Kaiserslautern with three great chances in the first 15 minutes. On 7 minutes, Andreas Müller sent team-mate Isac Lidberg a dream pass, but the striker lost the one-on-one duel with Krahl, who saved with his foot. Just a minute later, a cross from Killian Corredor caused danger, but Fraser Hornby narrowly missed the ball. Then it was Lidberg again who finished, this time the Swede poked the ball wide and was injured in the process after 12 minutes.

The home team continued to have good opportunities as the game progressed. Hornby narrowly missed taking the lead after 22 minutes when his header bounced onto the crossbar. The Darmstadt team hardly allowed anything to happen on defence and so the guests were unable to record a shot on goal in the first half hour.

With 33 minutes played, the Lilies finally managed to turn their chances into something countable: After a cross from Sergio López, Corredor appeared unmarked at the far post and headed the ball into the net. Kaiserslautern had chances in the 37th and 38th minutes but were unable to get back on level terms. But things became really dangerous again on the other side when Luca Marseiler was denied by the keeper from close range in the 41st minute. The lead should have been higher by this point.

In stoppage time, the home team went one better: Fraser Hornby turned well on the edge of the area and found the bottom corner.

After the break, the guests had a period of pressure and tried from a distance through Tomiak in the 49th minute and Ritter in the 51st, but first Schuhen was there and then the ball went past the goal. Luca Marseiler saw an effort deflect wide of the post in the 54th minute and then a minute later from the resulting corner, Corredor was unable to generate any power behind his header and it was a comfortable save for Krahl.

Just past the hour mark, former Lily, Ronstadt had the best chance of the game for the visitors but dragged it wide of the far post. That miss proved costly as a minute later, Corredor had his shot pushed away by Krahl but the rebound was converted by Marseiler.

The pressure eased a little after that goal but the Lilies were not finished and Marseiler turned provide this time. He scampered down the left and slid the ball across goal for Hornby to score his second after 73 minutes.

Hanslik volleyed home in the 84th minute to give the guests a consolation. It was to be Darmstadt who had the final say. With 3 minutes remaining, Tobias Kempe released Corredor who cut inside of two defenders and then nonchalantly finished with the outside of his foot to seal an emphatic victory.
