Home series ends against HSV
A courageous performance by the Lilies ended without a happy ending: SV 98 had to admit defeat to Hamburger SV 4-0 (1-0) – it was the first defeat after four home wins in a row.
In their home match against Hamburger SV, Darmstadt got off to a strong start, showcasing several successful attacking moves in the first ten minutes. The home team, of course, also had the first real chance to score: After a cross from Sergio López, Killian Corredor headed the ball over the bar with 17 minutes played. Just a few seconds later, SVD had a double chance: Fabian Nürnberger shot from the edge of the box, but HSV keeper Heuer Fernandes could only parry the treacherous bounce – but Isac Lidberg’s follow-up shot from a tight angle missed the target.
The visitors hadn’t registered a single shot on goal until the 23rd minute, but then took a surprise lead: Reis headed home a corner to give HSV a rather fortunate 1-0 lead. Despite the setback, Darmstadt remained the more active team, but – apart from a long-range shot from Corredor on 33 minutes– rarely found a way to score.
The remainder of the first half presented a similar picture: The home team dominated the proceedings but were unable to convert their dominance into clear scoring opportunities. Thus, the break came with only one shot on goal from the visitors and a comfortable lead for HSV.
Two minutes after the break, the South Hesse side quickly had their first shot on goal, but Andreas Müller’s effort flew wide of the post. Three minutes later, Philipp Förster shot from distance, but this too failed to trouble Heuer Fernandes. The home team’s pressure increased, and just three minutes later, Nürnberger’s header flew wide. After 58 minutes, the visitors capitalised on another corner, and Königsdörffer made it 2-0.
The game continued to change little, and yet the ball was in the Lilies‘ net again after 66 minutes, but Dompé’s goal was ruled out due to an offside position. The Lilies did not give up in the following period, however, and continued to push forward, but the guests took full advantage of the space that now opened up and scored the final score of 4-0 through Selke with 10 minutes remaining and Glatzel in added time.
