„I couldn’t have imagined a better farewell“

It was an emotional afternoon at the Merck Stadium at Böllenfalltor – a fitting, dignified setting for the final game of the season and Tobias Kempe's final appearance as a Lily. SV 98 defeated Jahn Regensburg 3-1, bidding farewell to the 2024/25 season with a win. Overall, a successful day, as Florian Kohfeldt and Tobias Kempe noted afterward.

„Congratulations to Darmstadt on the win. It’s a shame we didn’t manage to secure our first away win. We had a good start with good play. But Darmstadt gradually found more solutions after that. After the break, you could see that the spaces were getting tighter and the pressure was increasing. We ultimately defended the two goals we conceded poorly. Nevertheless, we still had a chance to equalise at 2-2. In the end, Darmstadt’s quality of exploiting chances was simply better. And so, unfortunately, we leave the field as losers.“

Florian Kohfeldt:

„I agree with my fellow coach’s analysis. I wish Regensburg all the best for the next season. We wanted to end the season with a win. So I’m glad we left the pitch as winners. It was a worthy farewell for Tobi. He, too, wanted so badly to leave with a win. And he did everything he could to be on the pitch. Huge congratulations on a truly great career. There are players who have won more trophies and championships, but there are hardly any players who represent a club so strongly.“

Tobias Kempe:

„Today was pure emotion. Friday’s injury was a slap in the face. I wondered how this could happen to me two days before my last game. Today was indescribably beautiful, especially with the fans‘ choreography. They were incredible moments that I’ll always remember. Playing time worked out longer than expected today. I don’t even know how that was possible. I couldn’t have imagined a better farewell today. The club, together with the fans, made a huge effort; I’ll never forget that.“

Three unfortunate minutes just before halftime, during which Patric Pfeiffer was sent off and Vincent Vermeij scored twice, paved the way for Dresden's victory. After the match, the focus was primarily on the differing assessments of two very similar incidents by the refereeing team – incidents which both coaches subsequently evaluated identically.
