“I’m a player who always gives everything”
Since moving to Darmstadt, Killian Corredor has been in the starting line-up in every competitive game. The offensive player scored his first goal for the Lilies in the away game in Fürth. We spoke to the 24-year-old about the past few weeks, different positions and intensive runs.
sv98.de: Killian, you’ve been with the Lilies for almost exactly three months now. How did you settle into the team and in Darmstadt?
Killian Corredor: I was welcomed into the team very well from day one; the team made it easy for me to integrate into the group. And I also like the city, I feel comfortable.
sv98.de: How is communication going? Do you already understand a little German?
Corredor: Admittedly it’s quite complicated, German is really difficult. I now understand a few words. But I try to communicate in English.
Football is a universal language, it's easy to understand each other on the field.
sv98.de: You can also talk to the trainer in French.
Corredor: That’s really a plus point. This allows me to express myself better to him and allows him to better explain to me the things he wants to see from me.
sv98.de: Communication seems to be going well on the pitch. You have started every game since your move. You should be happy with that so far.
Corredor: Every player always wants to play, so of course I’m happy. I just try to do my best on the pitch to help the team. Football is a universal language, it’s easy to understand each other on the field.
sv98.de: Before you moved, did you expect what would happen to you in the second division?
Corredor: I was able to assess it quite well. I love football and watch a lot of games. I’m also lucky to have some friends who are already playing or have played in Germany. So I knew that a league with a lot of pace and high intensity was waiting for me. This has been absolutely confirmed so far.
sv98.de: Games at Schalke or the cup game in Dresden were certainly something special, right?
Corredor: We play football to experience games like this. It’s great to play in stadiums like this with such an atmosphere. That’s special, even though I’ve often experienced extraordinary games with a great atmosphere in France.
sv98.de: How do you feel about the home games?
Corredor: Our stadium is always full, the fans encourage us at every game and create a great atmosphere. The two wins against Köln and Hertha in particular were great fun.
sv98.de: The mood in the team seems to be really good at the moment. How much have the successes of the past few weeks helped?
Corredor: It took a while for everyone to get their bearings, but the team has been working really well since our first win. There is a very good atmosphere in the group, which helps us a lot to play the games successfully.
sv98.de: You also scored your first goal for Darmstadt in Fürth. A special moment?
Corredor: Yes, that was really good for me. My role on the field is a little different than before in France, but I try to learn different things and help the team everywhere. But of course I’m still a goalscorer at heart and goals are important to me (grins).
sv98.de: Under Florian Kohfeldt you are used in different positions: sometimes behind the forwards, sometimes a little more on the outside or in a diamond. Do you like this flexibility?
Corredor: I enjoy holding different positions with different requirements. I think I can adapt well and take on a different role within a game.
sv98.de: After the Hertha game, the coach particularly highlighted your many intensive runs. According to statistics there were 90 pieces…
Corredor: I am a player who always gives everything on the pitch. I don’t really think about whether I have to divide my strength precisely. If I can help the team with a run, then I’ll do it.
sv98.de: What things in your game do you still want to improve?
Corredor: I can get better everywhere. That’s why I don’t want to commit to it at all.
sv98.de: And finally: A popular fan chant is “Allez les bleus”. How did you feel when you first heard it?
Corredor: I was happy. I think it’s great that one of the songs is in French. Allez les bleus! (laughs)
