International trip for Oscar Vilhelmsson

The Bundesliga is taking a break. There will be some peace and quiet at the Merck Stadium at the Böllenfalltor next weekend. But not for Oscar Vilhelmsson. The attacker was again called up to the Swedish U21 national team squad.

There are two games on the agenda for Vilhelmsson this international match period: After a test match on Friday (22/03 at 2.30pm) against the Cyprus U21s, the Darmstadt player will be back in action for Sweden on Tuesday (26/03 at 2pm) in the fight for the places for the U21 European Championships 2025 in Slovakia. In Group C, the Scandinavians are in third place with seven points, behind Georgia (10 points) and the Netherlands (18 points). The group winners and best runners-up qualify directly for the tournament. The other six group runners-up will then fight in the play-offs for the remaining three tickets. It was only a good six months ago that Vilhelmsson celebrated his debut in the Swedish U21 national team. In the European Championship qualifiers he came on as a substitute against North Macedonia, but was unable to prevent the 0-1 defeat. This changed with his second appearance for “Tre Kronor” and his brace in the 4-0 win over Moldova. Vilhelmsson made 18 Bundesliga appearances for SV Darmstadt 98 this season. The 20-year-old was last on the field for the full game against FC Bayern Munich. While the crossbar was in the way of the man with number 29 in the first half, he scored his second goal of the season for the Lilies in stoppage time against the German record champions.
