Personnel update: Fabian Holland, Matthias Bader, Paul Will, Christoph Zimmermann, as well as Othmane El Idrissi, Alexander Brunst, Guille Bueno, and Meldin Dreskovic are unavailable. Aleksandar Vukotic and Andreas Müller are both suspended. Oscar Vilhelmsson is available again.

… about 1. FC Kaiserslautern:

The coaching change at Kaiserslautern has changed their style of play. They’ve become more direct and now try to quickly get the ball up front to Ache and develop their attacks from there. FCK is one of the league’s most effective counterattacking teams.

… about the upcoming duel:

The game has a very emotional starting point. Kaiserslautern absolutely has to win to keep their dream of promotion alive. They’re surrounded by a lot of teams with similar points totals. Therefore, I expect them to try to play with a lot of energy from the start, attacking us high, and getting the ball into the box quickly. We have to be the team that has to resist them. In the long run, we want to gain control of the game. It would be good for us if the game was a bit calmer. We absolutely want to win the game on Sunday.

… about the Fritz-Walter-Stadion:

It’s a great stadium, and it’ll be packed. And I’m really looking forward to it. It’s a first for me. I’ve never been to the Betze before, so I’m looking forward to the atmosphere in Kaiserslautern.

… about his relationship with Torsten Lieberknecht:

Torsten and I have known each other for a while. I respect him. He left me a nice note when I took over here. I’m very happy for him that he’s found a challenge that suits him very well. I’m really looking forward to seeing him on Sunday and meeting a very nice fellow coach.

… about the lessons from the HSV game:

It was difficult to assess the HSV game in retrospect. We dominated until the 1-0. But on the corner before the 1-0, we left our position and the man in the centre, which was a clear mistake – and exactly the same thing happened at the 0-2. That really annoyed us, especially because up until that matchday, we had only conceded one goal from a corner. We were always very meticulous and responsible with defensive set pieces. But we weren’t on the last matchday. We have to be clear in these situations; everyone has their role to play. We want and must do better on Sunday in Kaiserslautern.

After the match, the focus was primarily on the differing assessments of two very similar incidents by the refereeing team – incidents which both coaches subsequently evaluated identically.
