“Leave passion on the pitch” | Season start for the „Zwote“

New week, new events: The SV Darmstadt 98 fan team played their first game of the new season - unfortunately still without success. Meanwhile, the U17 young Lilies spent four intensive days in the training camp. And to the professionals: Fabian Nürnberger answered questions in a media round. He talked about his comeback, the last game and also looked ahead to the upcoming duel with SC Paderborn (11.08/1.30pm). You can find out all this and more in our weekly “Lilies across the Board” section.

Ready for the challenges ahead. Fabian Nürnberger is back on the pitch, celebrated his comeback after a shoulder injury on the first matchday of the 2024/25 second division season and was on the field for the full distance after a long injury break. “Everything went faster than expected, which I’m just happy about. I had top people around me, had a top rehab and maybe also good healing meat,” smiles Nürnberger, who certainly expected more from the first game of the new season, but also highlighted positive things. “We already had good approaches. We left our hearts on the pitch. But our new team still has to get used to it a bit,” said the SV 98 winger in a media round on Wednesday (August 7th).

It will be important in Paderborn that we show passion on the pitch.

Fabian Nürnberger about the upcoming duel

+++ With passion to score points in Paderborn +++

Despite the defeat at the start of the season, the Lilies are trying to maintain the good mood within the team. Learn from experiences and continue to improve. The next chance for something countable is the upcoming duel with SC Paderborn (11.8./1.30pm). Nürnberger: “It will be an exciting game. Paderborn is a strong team, similar to Düsseldorf. They have developed well over the years. It’s always difficult to play there.“ Nevertheless, he emphasises: „Each of us works on our mistakes during the training week. It will be important in Paderborn that we show passion on the pitch.”

+++ Work, sweat and above all fun: U17 in the training camp +++

Let’s go! From July 30th until August 2nd, the U17 of SV Darmstadt 98 completed their training camp at the Southwest German Football Association’s sports school in Edenkoben. The motto is to get ready for the start of the season in the DFB’s U17 youth league. Next Saturday (10.8./3pm) the Junglilien will meet Rot-Weiß Erfurt. The team in the Palatinate concluded their summer preparation this year with a series of training sessions. U17 head coach Max Lieberknecht looks back on the four-day training camp: “We had an incredibly intense time as a group, which we filled with a lot of work, sweat and, above all, joy and fun. “The conditions on site were ideal for two weeks before the start of the youth league to come together as a community and recharge our batteries for the first half of the season.”

+++ No points for the fan team +++

Not a successful start to the 2024/25 season of the District League C. The SV Darmstadt 98 fan team lost 3-1 at VfR Eberstadt at the start of the new season. The consolation goal for the Lilies only came in the second minute of stoppage time thanks to an own goal from Eberstadt. The fan team will have the chance to get their first points again next Wednesday (August 14th) against another team from Eberstadt. This time not against the VfR, but against the second team from Germania. Kick-off on Ostendstraße in Pfungstadt is at 7.30pm.

+++ In memory of Utz Pfeiffer +++

Forever in our hearts. Next Saturday (August 10th) the former team manager of SV Darmstadt 98, Utz Pfeiffer, would have turned 63 years old. Pfeiffer was part of the Blue-Whites for over a decade and accompanied the team with limitless commitment and enormous commitment. His contribution to the team, his friendliness, openness and willingness to help will always be remembered.

Disappointment & pride

Darmstadt's 2-1 defeat at Karlsruher SC also ended any remaining theoretical hopes the South Hessian club had of finishing the season in the top three. The loss at the Wildpark stadium served somewhat as a symbol for the past few weeks, during which SV 98 had only managed one point from five matches since the international break in March. Following the game on Sunday afternoon, the Darmstadt players addressed the assembled media representatives with mixed feelings.

Three points! SV Darmstadt 98's U21 team secured a victory in the Lotto Hessenliga on Saturday afternoon (May 2nd). In their match against Hünfelder SV, the young Lilies overcame an early deficit to clinch a convincing 3-1 win. This result puts the U21 team currently outside the relegation zone. „We must take the lead in the first half.“

A bitter end in Karlsruhe: After 90 entertaining minutes in which both teams sought salvation in attack, Darmstadt suffered a narrow defeat. The final score was 2-1 after a late goal from the home side, following Isac Lidberg's earlier equaliser. After the match, the players were particularly frustrated with the missed opportunities in the first half.
