Leaving the Alm Pointless

Darmstadt's away form continues to be shaky: SV 98 suffered a 2-1 (0-1) defeat at Arminia Bielefeld. Maglica scored early for the visitors to give them a temporary lead. After 28 matchdays, they remain on 50 points.

The hosts from East Westphalia started the match with high pressure, trying to push the game into the South Hessians‘ half early on. However, it was Darmstadt who created the first dangerous chance: Killian Corredor cut inside from the wing and curled a shot towards the far corner, but Kersken in the Bielefeld goal made a brilliant save to deny him on 4 minutes.

Just two minutes later, Darmstadt took the lead. After a free-kick routine, Fraser Hornby laid the ball off for Matej Maglica. The centre-back didn’t hesitate and unleashed a powerful shot at over 120 km/h to give Darmstadt a 1-0 lead.

After that, the home side had more of the game and repeatedly got into dangerous positions. However, Arminia rarely managed to seriously trouble Marcel Schuhen. The Darmstadt goalkeeper easily caught a long-range shot from Lannert with 8 minutes played. Most of the hosts‘ other attempts went wide or were easily saved by Schuhen.

Apart from shots from Corredor on 37 minutes and Richter in stoppage, Darmstadt rarely threatened, and so the teams went into halftime with Darmstadt holding a narrow lead.

After the break, Arminia got off to a flying start and equalised after just two minutes: Telalovic headed in a cross from close range. Three minutes later, the hosts thought they had scored again, but Momuluh’s goal was disallowed for offside (50′).

In the second half, the home side continued to dominate, and Darmstadt struggled to find solutions in attack.

Nine minutes before the end, a deflected shot landed right at Rochelt’s feet and the Bielefeld player scored from close range to give the hosts a 2-1 victory.
