It was a pleasure, San Antonio!
The Lilien will be in San Antonio from September 25th to October 1st. In this USA diary, we will keep you updated on the trip and SV 98's experiences.
During their stay in Texas, Volker Harr and Arnd Zinnhardt visited the Austin site of premium partner Focused Energy. At the US branch of the Darmstadt-based company, the two vice presidents gained insight into Focused Energy’s operations and its research into a technology that could make a significant contribution to the future energy supply in the long term.
Focused Energy has its roots in Darmstadt and focuses on developing the commercial use of nuclear fusion via laser technology. Specifically, their work involves fusing atomic nuclei to release energy. The long-term goal is to use nuclear fusion to generate energy on a large scale in an environmentally friendly manner, thereby securing the future of energy supply.
In addition to its headquarters in Darmstadt, Focused Energy operates a site in Austin. There, an international team works on a specific aspect of the technology, developing and testing individual components. During their visit, Harr and Zinnhardt toured the facilities and viewed the research infrastructure taking shape there—highlighting the fact that behind a technology that might seem abstract at first glance lies the work of many people from diverse backgrounds. A key focus was the personal interaction with the local team. The Vice Presidents brought along Lilien merchandise to distribute to the staff, aiming to further strengthen transatlantic ties and get the Texas-based employees excited about SV 98. The visit lasted around two and a half hours, demonstrating that a piece of Darmstadt’s future-oriented technology is being developed right in the heart of Texas.
