Darius Scholtysik is now part of the coaching team. The 57-year-old will act as Torsten Lieberknecht’s assistant coach together with Ovid Hajou. Scholtysik already held this role from 2008 to 2020, when he and Lieberknecht were active together for Eintracht Braunschweig and MSV Duisburg. Scholtysik then worked as an assistant coach at FC Zurich, and in the past two seasons he worked in the same role at TSG Hoffenheim.
The previous assistant coach Kai Peter Schmitz will now act as head of analysis. Together with video analyst Max Kohl, Schmitz will devote even more time to observing opponents and following up on games as preparation begins. The newly created position of Head of Performance will be held by Alexander Ryan. The 35-year-old, who most recently worked for SV Wehen Wiesbaden, is responsible for the entire area of performance optimisation, which includes the areas of athletics, rehabilitation and nutrition. These will continue to be operationally managed by Christopher Busse, Florian Bauer and Dr. Mareike Großhauser.
Paul Fernie: “One of the conclusions of our season analysis was that we would like to have a more precise distribution of roles and clarity in the sporting structures. We are convinced that these adjustments will make our daily work even better and more efficient and that they will have a positive impact on our sporting work. On the one hand, with the additional manpower and competence in sport, we can work with the players even more individually, and on the other hand, by sharpening the areas of responsibility, we are giving even more responsibility to the individual sporting sub-areas.
