The game day quote

We have to build on the Nürnberg performance. The Elversbergers will have something against us getting our first win. We set a mark against Nürnberg as to what we can play. If we continue to develop, improve and take advantage of our opportunities, we will also win the three points.

Torsten Lieberknecht, Coach of SV Darmstadt 98

The Venue

From the Regionalliga Südwest to the 2. Bundesliga. SV Elversberg has had an impressive development. The team is playing in the 2nd Bundesliga for the second year in a row. The sporting success of the past few years has also resulted in changes to the venue. When the Lilies last visited Elversberg in December 2013, the game was only played in front of 1,437 spectators in the Kaiserlinde stadium. This Saturday, however, there will be almost 1,600 Lilien fans in the sold-out guest area alone. After the Saarlanders were promoted to the 2nd league, the SVE expanded their home stadium, which has been called the URSAPHARM-Arena an der Kaiserlinde since 2014, and increased the stadium capacity to 10,000 seats (including 6,320 standing room).

The Opponents View

Horst Steffen, head coach of SV Elversberg at the press conference before the game: „The results so far are relatively irrelevant. Darmstadt is a Bundesliga relegated team that comes here and wants to celebrate its first win. We want and have to resist, because they definitely have power and really good players in their ranks. There have been a few new additions recently that will certainly have an impact on the game on Saturday, but also on the future of the opponent. We need a very good performance at the weekend to have a chance. We want to play bravely and challenge the opponent, but also defend well in order to fend off Darmstadt’s attacks early on. Our goal is to put in a good performance on Saturday and to celebrate a success with our fans. I’m looking forward to a good football game.“
