New additions to the mic | Saarbrücken test via live stream

„Lilies across the Board “ in the training camp edition. SV Darmstadt 98 will be in Herxheim until Sunday (July 21st) – seven days full of training sessions, seven days working together as a team and growing together. On the first few days, media discussions were scheduled for our new arrivals Aleksandar Vukotic and Luca Marseiler as well as Kai Klefisch – we report. There are also two Lily birthdays coming up at the Hotel Krone. And the highlight of the week is the test match on Saturday (July 20th/1pm) against 1. FC Saarbrücken.

+++ “I will do everything to help the team” +++

Media round at the training camp. On Monday afternoon (July 15th), Aleksandar Vukotic was available to the journalists who had traveled to Herxheim for a short round of discussions. The new signing from SV 98 talked about his first impressions of the Lilies, his strengths on the field and the ongoing preparation for the coming season. “The coaching team and we have worked hard in the last few weeks. This week is no exception,” said the central defender, praising the work of the entire team. Vukotic has been wearing the Lily on his chest for a good month now. Above all, Matej Maglica and Filip Stojilkovic, who have Croatian and Serbian roots, helped the native Serbian a lot and supported him with all questions off the pitch. But back to the field. “I will do everything I can to win duels and help the team,” said Vukotic, who sees his strengths primarily in his mentality on the field.

+++ Type of street footballer and perfume lover +++

Next one, please. Luca Marseiler was the guest in the media roundtable on Tuesday (July 16). “I was well received by the team. Actually, after a change you always need a little time to arrive. “It was very easy for me here because the team is super nice and open,” says the Lilies’ new number eight. Now he and his teammates want to continue to grow together at the training camp in Herxheim, says the “street kicker type” who once trained at FC Bayern Munich. “You have to win every game there, that’s what I took with me from my time there. That’s why I’m a sore loser now,” laughs Marseiler, who, in addition to football, is also an entrepreneur. After completing his business studies, he founded a perfume business with his two brothers. “We wanted to create our own scents,” says Marseiler, whose passion for perfume is palpable when he talks about it: “Good perfume is characterised by the good composition of the heart, top and base notes. And of course through longevity. It’s no use if you put it on and after five minutes you can’t smell it anymore…“

There is a good spirit on and off the pitch

Kai Klefisch in the Lilien training camp

+++ Klefisch praises “good spirit” +++

Crisp units. Intensive. Sweaty. Stressful. Nevertheless, Kai Klefisch emphasised in his media round on Wednesday (July 17): “I’m doing great.” He settled in quickly, but that didn’t come as a surprise to him. “After all, it’s not that difficult with the team we have here. There is a good spirit on and off the pitch,” said the midfielder, who particularly praised the unity that has already emerged: “We have a good mix in the team. Everyone gets along with everyone. You can see, for example, that everyone sits somewhere else when they eat every day and talks to everyone else.”

+++ Saarbrücken test game via live stream +++

Next Saturday (July 20th/1pm) the Lilies will test their strength in another test match. This time Torsten Lieberknecht’s team will face 1. FC Saarbrücken as part of their preparation in the training camp. Both teams last met in a friendly match during the 2019/20 season. At that time, the Darmstadt team won 3-0 with goals from Mathias Honsak, Dario Dumic and Tim Skarke. Tickets for the game on Saturday are available at the box office in Herxheim. The game will take place on the sports grounds of SV Viktoria 1913 e.V. Herxheim at St.-Christophorus-Straße 1. The sports field opens its doors from 11:30am. For all Lilien fans who can’t be there on site: We’ll show the encounter on our YouTube channel – free of charge in the live stream from 1pm.

+++ Happy Birthday, Clemens Riedel! +++

The July birthday series is slowly coming to an end. But we are also celebrating two Lily birthdays this week. First up on Friday (July 19th) is Clemens Riedel, who can look forward to turning 21. The defensive player has been part of the SV98 family since 2019. His path led via the Darmstadt youth academy to the Lilien professionals. Riedel celebrated his professional debut three years ago in the Merck Stadium at the Böllenfalltor in the game against SSV Jahn Regensburg. The number 38 has now played a total of 45 competitive games for Darmstadt 98. We wish you all the best for your birthday on Friday, Clemens! Good luck, happiness and joy!

+++ Congratulations, Andreas Müller! +++

Together with Clemens Riedel, Andreas Müller is also celebrating his special day in Herxheim at the training camp. The midfielder, who has been wearing the SV Darmstadt 98 jersey since summer 2023, will turn 24 on Saturday (July 20). The Sinsheim native has played in eleven competitive games for the Lilies. We congratulate Andi on his 24th birthday and wish him good luck, success and all the best for the coming year!

+++ Lilies football in the university stadium +++

Last weekend was a real football weekend full of Lily games: First, fans and the professional team celebrated the season opening at the Böllenfalltor including the 5-1 friendly win against Swift Hesperingen. Just one day later, on Sunday (July 14th), the SV Darmstadt 98 fan team played against a selection team from TU Darmstadt in the historic Lilien venue. For the first time in more than twenty years, an official football game was played in the university stadium. No wonder that football fans and groundhoppers from all over Germany announced themselves and stopped by. Over 800 spectators attended the game. True to the motto: stadium experience before the game result. The Lilies fan team lost to the TU with 1:6.

Disappointment & pride

Darmstadt's 2-1 defeat at Karlsruher SC also ended any remaining theoretical hopes the South Hessian club had of finishing the season in the top three. The loss at the Wildpark stadium served somewhat as a symbol for the past few weeks, during which SV 98 had only managed one point from five matches since the international break in March. Following the game on Sunday afternoon, the Darmstadt players addressed the assembled media representatives with mixed feelings.
