No Points against Braunschweig
SV 98 also lost out in Braunschweig: 1-0 (0-0) in the duel with Eintracht Braunschweig. The personnel situation in South Hesse is made worse by a yellow-red card for Jean-Paul Boetius.
In the first quarter of an hour, the hosts from Braunschweig initially had more of the game, but it only became dangerous once after a free kick from Baas, which Marcel Schuhen was able to fend off in the 6th minute. Although the Lilies had less possession of the ball, they repeatedly caused danger with their offensive actions. Isac Lidberg in the 2nd minute and Killian Corredor after a quarter of an hour were each denied by Hoffmann in the Eintracht goal.
As the game progressed, the hosts continued to have more of the game and occasionally had shots, but they weren’t really dangerous. The Darmstadt team had the best chance of the game: after a fine combination, Merveille Papela finished at the far post, but his shot was deflected and cannoned away off the post in the 33rd minute. The ball was carried forward from that chance, Philippe tried from a tight angle, but Schuhen parried this attempt.
After a minute of injury time, both sides went in the dressing rooms scoreless.
In the second half, the South Hessians had the game under control and hardly allowed any offensive actions from Braunschweig. The Lilies were now increasingly taking their own actions in the opponent’s half, but were hardly able to create any compelling chances.
But Braunschweig scored right in the middle of the Lilies‘ best phase: Tempelmann scored from the edge of the penalty area on the hour mark. Two minutes later the next setback for the Lilies: Jean-Paul Boëtius collected a second yellow card and the guests had to play the last half hour with 10 men.
Despite all the adversities, the South Hesse team didn’t give up in the final phase and tried everything to force an equaliser. The leveller almost arrived in the 89th minute: Corredor took a shot and the deflected ball flew onto the crossbar. Even after that, a few more balls flew into the Braunschweig penalty area, but the goal wouldn’t come and so the Lilies had to narrowly admit defeat.
