No Points in Ulm
Defeat at the Donaustadion. SV 98 lost 2 - 1 (0-0) to SSV Ulm and must return home without any points.
The Lilies started their away game against SSV Ulm in a controlled manner and seized the initiative early on. The first promising opportunity arose after ten minutes: Following a precise long ball, Killian Corredor delivered a powerful shot into the middle, but Isac Lidberg was denied at the last moment. Just three minutes later, Darmstadt threatened again down the flank, this time narrowly missing a Marseiler cross.
After the opening minutes, the hosts also got into the game better and had their first shots on goal, but they failed to create any real threat. Things got tense for the first time after 26 minutes: Marcel Schuhen parried a cross, and Andreas Müller, in dire need, cleared the ball for a corner from Allgeier who was looking to pounce.
As the match progressed, much of the game was played between the penalty areas. It wasn’t until the 37th minute that the next shot came, but Corredor’s effort flew well wide. Three minutes later, however, came the best chance of the game so far: Ulm goalkeeper Thiede parried a shot from Sergio López, and Lidberg stepped up to rebound, but Thiede just managed to tip the ball onto the post. The break came a short time later with no goals scored.
The Lilies had the first shot after the break through Lidberg, but conceded five minutes after the restart when Röser turned in a cross. Seven minutes later, Batista Meier doubled the lead for the home side from distance as his effort flew into the top corner. The Lilies tried to mount a quick response, but Thiede had no trouble with Jean-Paul Boëtius’s effort just before the hour mark.
A set piece brought the Lilies back into the game in the 68th minute: Following a precise corner from Guille Bueno, Clemens Riedel rose high and headed in to make it 2 – 1 – his first goal as a professional. Two minutes later, Corredor narrowly missed the equaliser after a misplaced pass from Ulm’s back line, with Thiede tipping the ball over the bar.
In the closing minutes, Darmstadt pressed determinedly for an equaliser and created several dangerous positions. However, their shots were unable to seriously test the ‚keeper and the hosts were able to hang on for all three points.
