“Not consistent enough”

A pointless Friday evening for SV Darmstadt 98 in the Max Morlock Stadium. The Lilies lost 1-0 away to 1. FC Nürnberg. A late goal resulted in SV 98's defeat. The Darmstadt protagonists were correspondingly disappointed on the microphones after the final whistle. What exactly did the two head coaches say about the 90 minutes in Franconia? How did Philipp Förster and Fraser Hornby classify the game? We have summarised all the voices about the game for you.

Florian Kohfeldt:

“Congratulations to 1. FC Nürnberg and Miro on the win. For me it wasn’t a 0-0 game, but a 1-1 game. Both teams had chances to score: the club mainly through transitions in the second half, we especially through Mey Papela from three meters after a corner. Overall, both teams had strong possession of the ball, but had problems gaining access to the ball and winning high amounts of the ball. We won a lot of the ball in the first half and Fraser Hornby’s ball can easily go in. Otherwise, both teams were good at building up the game and playing well into the gaps. But then we don’t make the best decisions to create scoring opportunities. It should be noted that both injuries really hurt us in the first half because it took away any chance we had of influencing the game since we only had one substitution slot left. Nevertheless, the club deserved the win because it was more alert in the crucial situation. On the other hand, we have to maintain the emotionality and greed of wanting to win the game in every little moment. That’s what we’ve been missing in the last few weeks.”

Miroslav Klose:

„Thank you very much for the congratulations. We could have played some of our actions better in the transition moments. Darmstadt was difficult to tackle when in possession of the ball, but I’m very happy that we showed this greed today. I always had the feeling that I would have been very surprised that something else would happen. We were waiting for the chance, which fortunately came. It was a really exciting game from which we had a lot to take away and we can defend ourselves and I’m proud of what we showed today.“

Philipp Förster:

„It hurts at the moment. We started the game well, but then lost the thread. In the second half it felt like a 0-0 game. But when we conceded a goal, we didn’t defend consistently in the box. We also weren’t consistent enough and couldn’t really force anything through today – compared to previous games – but we’re currently lacking calm in the final third, where we often make the wrong decisions. Now it’s time to keep your head up and keep going give and work even harder. I’m sure we’ll bounce back quickly.“

Fraser Hornby:

„We are of course very disappointed. We controlled some phases of the game, but didn’t really create any good opportunities. We started the game really well, had a lot of possession and also scored the offside goal. But then Nürnberg was better too, they came in and dominated the game and in the end they didn’t have many chances, but they at least took advantage of one. Of course, the two injuries also disrupted our rhythm of play a little, but we have a good squad in which everyone knows. That’s why we can’t use that as an excuse. We just weren’t at the level we could be. We haven’t really managed to put the opponent in trouble since the winter break. We’ll work on that a little and then I’m very positive that we’ll reach our level again.“
