Nothing countable at the end
The Lilies' Bundesliga journey ends with a defeat: SV 98 lost 0:4 (0:2) to Borussia Dortmund.
In the Lilies‘ last Bundesliga game at Borussia Dortmund for the time being, the guests were well in the game in the first few minutes and played courageously. However, it was was Marco Reus who had the first really noteworthy finish of the game in his last game for BVB: Sancho cut the ball back to Reus but he smashed it against the bar on 11 minutes. Six minutes later, the South Hessians also reported their presence in front of the opposing goal and Marvin Mehlem failed to hit the ball after a cross from Emir Karic – however, the flag had gone up for offside.
Overall, it was a solid start to the game for both sides. After 30 minutes, Dortmund took the lead: Sabitzer hit the crossbar and the ball wasn’t fully cleared before the ball landed at Maatsen and his shot hit the far corner unstoppable for Marcel Schuhen.
Seven minutes before the half-time, Reus took the free kick and gave Schuhen no chance as he bent it over the wall for a 2-0 lead. This is how the game went into the interval.
After the break, the home team dominated the game and created more chances to score, but without causing any real danger. In the 56th minute, Reus tried again with a free kick, but this time was foiled by Schuhen who sprung to his right and tipped it wide.
Julian Brandt made it 3-0 in the 72nd minute as he collected the pass from Jadon Sancho and slotted home. Two minutes before the end, Malen made it 4-0 as his first effort struck the post and the rebound fell kindly for him to tap into an empty net.
