Jean-Paul Boëtius has an intense and exciting few weeks ahead. The midfielder has been called up to the Suriname national team for the first time. In addition to his Dutch citizenship, the 31-year-old also holds citizenship of the South American country. Although Boëtius has already played one game for the Netherlands‘ senior national team (against France in 2014), it was not a competitive match. Therefore, a change of national team is still possible.
Suriname faces two important competitions. First, the South Americans aim to gain important points in the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers, at home against Puerto Rico (June 7th/12:00 AM CEST) and away against El Salvador (June 11th/03:00 AM CEST). After two matches, Suriname is in first place in its qualifying Group F with six points.
The group stage of the CONCACAF Gold Cup – a competition to determine the football champion of North, Central America, and the Caribbean – begins on June 16. Suriname will face Costa Rica (June 16, 12:00AM CEST), Mexico (June 19, 04:00AM CEST), and the Dominican Republic (June 23, 4:00AM CEST) in the group stage. However, the final squad nominations for this tournament have yet to be made.
SV 98 wishes you much success and all the best, Djanga!
