Points shared on Kohfeldt’s debut
The first point under the new head coach Florian Kohfeldt has been collected: the Lilies took the lead but Eintracht Braunschweig levelled to make it 1-1 (1-0). Sergio Lopez scored for the home team in the first half. Braunschweig's Szabo equalised late in the second half.
The first few minutes of the game against Eintracht Braunschweig were initially quite even. Although both teams took action in the opposing penalty area, they were not really dangerous. In the tenth minute the Lilies came close for the first time: Killian Corredor took a shot from a free kick, but the attempt was blocked and Isac Lidberg was unable to control the follow-up. A few minutes later the next good chance for the SVD: Braunschweig’s keeper Grill was unable to hold on to a shot from Lidberg and Fraser Hornby had the chance to follow up, but the striker could not control the difficult ball on 15 minutes.
As the playing time progressed, the Darmstadt team took more and more control of the game and almost took the lead. Fraser Hornby had two chances in two minutes on the 21st and 22nd minutes but the first effort went over and the second was volleyed wide. The South Hessians took the lead six minutes later: winning the ball and then attacking, the ball landed at the feet of Sergio López, his first attempt was blocked, but he then placed his second attempt into the far corner after 28 minutes.
In the final minutes of the first period, the guests tried to increase the pressure a little and thus had more actions, but the Lilies‘ defense was secure and hardly allowed any dangerous shots. It wasn’t until stoppage time that things became dangerous for the first time, but Di Michele’s shot went past the far post in stoppage time. This meant that the 98ers went into the half-time break with a narrow lead.
Immediately after the break, Braunschweig had a double chance, but first Kai Klefisch was in the right place and was able to block an effort on the line with a second chance going wide. However, SVD ultimately survived the short period of pressure from the guests unscathed and was soon better in the game again. In the 61st minute of the game, Hornby scored the second goal of the game but VAR intervened and spotted a foul from Corredor in the buildup to the goal.
In the 77th minute of the game, the Lilies were lucky when a long-range shot from Philippe hit the crossbar. The guests pushed for an equaliser in the final minutes of the game and levelled in the 86th minute: Szabo looped an effort into the far corner to make the final score 1-1.
