Points Shared with Ulm
No winner on Sunday afternoon: The Lilien and SSV Ulm drew 1-1 (1-1) in the Merck Stadium at the Böllenfalltor. Hornby scored for the home team after 16 minutes.
The opening quarter of an hour of the home game against SSV Ulm was initially without any chances for either side. Nevertheless, it was clear early on that Darmstadt was willing to take control. After 16 minutes, the Lilies used their first real shot and promptly took the lead: Isac Lidberg won the ball, played it into the path of Fraser Hornby and he scored from the edge of the area to make it 1-0. But the lead didn’t last long, as just two minutes later Keller scored to make it 1-1.
After the goals, the game became much more fast-paced and after 24 minutes Hornby had the chance to make it 2-1: Lidberg put it in the middle, but this time the attempt was lifted over the bar. Three minutes later, Lidberg played the next cross, this time the ball came via an Ulm player to Kai Klefisch, who smashed his first time effort over the top. The Lilies were now seeing more of the ball and creating more opportunities.
With long periods of possession, the home team shifted most of the game into the Ulm half. In the 38th minute of the game, the SVD sniffed at taking the lead again: Corredor tried to bend an effort into the top corner but it was pushed over the top of the bar by Thiede in the Ulm goal. A few seconds before the half-time whistle, Hornby tried a free kick, the deflected ball landed at the feet of Lidberg, but he wasn’t able to get a shot away. The sides went into the break level.
Even after the break, the Darmstadt team continued to have control of the game. The first chance went to the guests, but Marcel Schuhen narrowed the angle against Chessa and fended off the attempt, 5 minutes after the break. On the other hand, Philipp Förster prevailed strongly against his opponent and shot, Ulm’s keeper Thiede just steered the ball around the post on 57 minutes. Three minutes later the home team got another chance but Corredor couldn’t find the target on the hour mark.
The Lilies continued to play patiently, repeatedly getting closer to the goal, but rarely getting into really good finishing positions. Twelve minutes before the end, the Lilies worked the ball to Lidberg but he dragged the shot wide of the far post. There was to be no further chances.
