Safety Secured in Münster
SV 98 remains unbeaten in its fourth consecutive match: The South Hesse side drew 1-1 (0-1) in their away match against SC Preußen Münster. Luca Marseiler scored for the visitors in stoppage time of the first half and thus secured their status in Bundesliga 2.
The Lilies‘ away game at SC Preußen Münster was largely evenly matched in the first quarter of an hour, with almost no shots on goal from either side. The South Hesse side attacked the hosts early, repeatedly putting their opponents under pressure, but initially failed to capitalise.
It took almost half an hour before the first notable shot of the game: Killian Corredor broke through down the wing, shot from a tight angle, and Schenk in the home goal just managed to deflect the powerful shot for a corner on 26 minutes. In the 39th minute, Münster again came close to scoring, but Makridis’s long-range shot was no problem for Marcel Schuhen.
The 98ers finally took the lead in stoppage time: Luca Marseiler played a strong one-two with Isac Lidberg, moved into the penalty area, and scored with precision to make it 1-0 at halftime.
Three minutes after the break, referee Lukas Benen pointed to the spot and awarded a penalty to the Lilies. However, after more than five minutes of joint VAR review, the penalty was overturned.
The hosts equalized with their first shot of the second half on 62 minutes: Mees headed a Lorenz cross into the net. In the following minutes, Münster had the better of the game and repeatedly attempted to score with crosses, including a Fridjonsson header that hit the crossbar after a cross with a little under 20 minutes remaining.
The Lilies survived the brief period of pressure and repeatedly made offensive moves of their own, but mostly failed to create any decisive shots. In the 83rd minute, Fraser Hornby tried his luck from distance but narrowly missed. In the closing stages, the home side pressed for a winner, while the 98ers cleverly exploited the space they had and created the better chances – but another goal was still elusive.
