Florian Kohfeldt: „First of all, I’m very pleased that we have several players in the squad who would have been considered for this position. Schuh is a player who has already played a leading role in the team in recent years. He is able to represent the team’s interests, but is also not above addressing uncomfortable topics directly in the locker room. He embodies SV 98 and its values, and his long association with the club has given him a very good understanding of many issues. It was also important to me that the captaincy be filled by a player who will most likely always be on the field. I would like to emphasise the outstanding conversation I had with Fabian Holland, in which he showed great understanding for the decision. He has performed the role of captain excellently for years with his calm and clear manner and, as part of the team council, will continue to play an important role in our hierarchy.“
Marcel Schuhen: „It’s a great honour for me to be the Lilies‘ captain in the future. I’m very grateful for the trust placed in me. However, the armband won’t change my style or approach, as I’ve always tried to lead the way in the past. But I’m really looking forward to leading the team into the stadium in the future and knowing that I have ten players behind me who will support each other and put their hearts on the pitch. It was extremely important to me that there was a clean and transparent transition with Fabi. He’s had a difficult time, and I very much hope to be back on the pitch with him soon.“
Fabian Holland: „It was always something special to be on the field for the Lilies with the armband on my arm. However, due to my long injury and the health setbacks of the past few months, I fully understand that with Schuh, a player will be wearing the armband in the future, with whom the coach has a different level of planning security. For me, there’s no question that I will support Schuh in his role to the best of my ability – just as he has done for me in recent years.“
