Second half of the season preparations have begun
With medical checks, athletic training, and their first session on the pitch, the Darmstadt 98 first team has officially kicked off 2026. This marks the start of SV Darmstadt 98's preparations for the second half of the 2025/26 second division season.
On Saturday morning (January 3rd), the players began with individual performance assessments and athletic drills. They also completed the 30-15 running test on the training pitch. At 3pm, the team took to the field with the ball for the first time this year. The session, which was relatively relaxed, focused on passing, dribbling, and running drills.
Florian Kohfeldt: „It was nice to spend time with my family, but the anticipation of being back here was definitely there – and that’s what sets us apart. The lads give that impression too.“
Matej Maglica and Aleksandar Vukotic were unavailable due to illness. Fabian Nürnberger was sidelined with knee problems, and Killian Corredor with a hip injury.
Tomorrow, Sunday (January 4th), the Lilies head to warmer climes. The team, coaching staff, and support staff will depart for Spain in the morning, where seven intensive days of training await them in Valencia. In the coastal town of El Saler, they plan to fine-tune their preparations for the second half of the season under optimal conditions. SV Darmstadt 98 will be staying at the „Parador de El Saler“ hotel for the fifth time, as its training facilities are located on the premises.
Paul Fernie: „We played very well in the first half of the season, but that momentum was interrupted by the winter break. However, that applies to every team in this league. For us, it’s about finding our rhythm again as quickly as possible. In Spain, we know exactly what we’re getting. The pitch is good, the hotel is excellent, we have everything we need.“
