“Shows how intact the team is”

Torsten Lieberknecht:

“This is pure football here in Bochum. And it’s unpleasant to play as an opponent here – especially when you’re 2-0 down. I take my hat off all the more to my team for how they came back. We had good opening minutes with the offside goal and good counterattack opportunities, but we can exploit them better. We wanted to use a more offensive approach to send a signal that we definitely want to win this game. Bochum then made good use of the large field to build up pressure and create opportunities to score. What’s annoying is that the first goal comes from a set piece out of the crowd of bodies. The 0-2 was also unfortunate because we didn’t let the ball go out in front of the cross. After that, Schuhen does well to keep us in the game. In return we counterattack and make it 1:2 really well. After the 2-2 draw, both sides had one chance to win – in our case after a set piece by Gjasula. Survival is our championship goal. Now we play against Mainz, where we want to take the chance to get closer with this one point behind us.”

Thomas Letsch:

“Playing here in the evening is awesome. But it was also terrible today because we controlled the game 100 percent until we made it 2-1. We had a lot of chances to score, didn’t allow anything and after 2-0 we still have to make it 3-0. But then we bring the opponent back into the game. And this isn’t the first time this has happened to us. If we can’t decide the game, we have to defend it consistently. We didn’t succeed. Accordingly, we are totally disappointed. We are in the middle of a relegation battle. It’s going to be an intense seven weeks.”

Marcel Schuhen:

“We played in front of a really difficult crowd, people were completely fired up. Bochum’s home record also speaks for itself. We’re 2-0 down here in Bochum and end up playing 2-2. If we had lost it would have been very unpleasant. So we have to be satisfied with that point. Today’s 0-1 came after an awkward set-piece situation that was difficult to defend. We set our sights on a lot in the second half, but we immediately conceded the second goal. But the reaction to it was great. We went ahead and shot the thing here almost completely. That shows how intact the team is. We build on that. Now the games are getting fewer and we need points, that’s clear. But today we’ll take the point with us on the bus and back to Darmstadt.”

Christoph Klarer:

„We started the game well with the goal narrowly offside, conceding a goal after a set piece was too easy, and being behind obviously didn’t make it any more pleasant. After that, we needed a little time and started the second half in a very bad way with a score of 2-0 From the 60th minute onwards it was really great what we did, also thanks to the substitutes who really brought the momentum back in. Of course we know that we actually need three points in our situation, but it’s still an important one today. It was a point for us, because we showed morale. We get the goals too easily, but coming back after a 0-2 defeat and against this force that the stadium develops shows that this team is alive. Overall, we still leave with a positive feeling. A team that doesn’t believe in itself won’t come back here today.“
