The new Sports Director is a guest at the Lilienschänke: On Monday (April 29th) the April fan evening of SV Darmstadt 98 took place with Paul Fernie – an entertaining, exciting evening. Meanwhile, the day before, the Lilies received a lot of encouraging messages via social media – including three former Darmstadt professionals. We also report on Asaf Arania's first appointment to the matchday squad and provide you with information about our fan team. +++ Off to the Lilienschänke with Paul Fernie +++

Get to know the Lilies‘ new sports director better? No problem. Numerous SVD fans took advantage of this opportunity last Monday (April 29th) in the well-attended Lilienschänke. SV 98 invited people to the April fan evening with Paul Fernie. And everyone present experienced an exciting and entertaining evening. The native Englishman answered the Lilies fans‘ questions about the current sporting situation, but also reported on the squad planning in the summer. But it wasn’t just his new job that was in the foreground; personal stories and anecdotes also found space on this evening. The fan evening was moderated by Jan Bergholz, the Lilien’s press spokesman, and Roy Reinelt-Peter, head of the SV 98 fan and support department.

+++ "Cheer up! You'll come back stronger!" +++

The descent is certain. SV Darmstadt 98’s Bundesliga journey ends after this season. SV 98 also posted this on its official Instagram channel. In addition to numerous Lilien fans, some ex-Darmstadt residents also commented on this post and sent encouraging words to the sports club from 1898. “Heads UP!!!!” wrote honorary captain Aytac Sulu and added: “Full throttle into the new season with full blast, with As always, great atmosphere and lots of victories.“ Luca Caldirola, now playing at AC Monza, also got in touch with the post: „Heads up! You’ll come back stronger.“ Jerome Gondorf joined in and wrote the following motivating message: “Keep your head up – we lilies have already overcome a decline and you came back wonderfully.” Thank you all for your great support despite this sad certainty!

+++ Number 49 in the matchday squad +++

And suddenly your jersey is hanging in the locker room of SV Darmstadt 98! At least a small dream that became reality last Sunday for Asaf Arania from the Lilies U19. The blue jersey with the number 49 found its place next to those of Andreas Müller and Matej Maglica and the U19 player was part of SV 98’s matchday squad against 1. FC Heidenheim. The 18-year-old, flexible offensive player had already traveled to the training camp in Spain with the Lilien professionals in the winter, and the young footballer with Israeli roots also trains regularly with Torsten Lieberknecht’s team. In the current season, Arania and the U19 Junglilien are leaders in the Hessenliga.

+++ Zwote shows comeback qualities +++

Thanks to mentality and taker qualities. The SV Darmstadt 98 fan team celebrated their second win in a row on Sunday afternoon (April 28th). After TSG Wixhausen II was spectacularly defeated 13-3 a week and a half ago (April 21st), this time it was much closer for coach Andreas Degenhardt’s team. Thanks to Julian Schreiber’s goal in the second minute of injury time, the second team was able to celebrate a 3-2 away win at Germania Eberstadt II – even though the Lilies were behind twice (0-1 and 1-2). Thanks to the success, the second team was able to consolidate its third place in the district league C Darmstadt. Next Sunday (05/05/3pm) the SpVgg Seeheim-Jugenheim II will be guests at Ostendstraße.

+++ All the best, Dieter Rudolf! +++

Dieter Rudolf celebrates his birthday on Wednesday (May 1st), the former Lilien goalkeeper turns 72 years old. The native of southern Hesse was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga with SVD in both 1978 and 1981 and played a total of 323 games for the club. As a member of the Darmstadt after-work football team, the keeper is always remembered by many fans. We at sv98.de also say: Congratulations on the 72nd day of honour, Lilien goalkeeper legend Dieter Rudolf!

Disappointment & pride

Darmstadt's 2-1 defeat at Karlsruher SC also ended any remaining theoretical hopes the South Hessian club had of finishing the season in the top three. The loss at the Wildpark stadium served somewhat as a symbol for the past few weeks, during which SV 98 had only managed one point from five matches since the international break in March. Following the game on Sunday afternoon, the Darmstadt players addressed the assembled media representatives with mixed feelings.

A bitter end in Karlsruhe: After 90 entertaining minutes in which both teams sought salvation in attack, Darmstadt suffered a narrow defeat. The final score was 2-1 after a late goal from the home side, following Isac Lidberg's earlier equaliser. After the match, the players were particularly frustrated with the missed opportunities in the first half.
