Suriname with important points | Full focus on Magdeburg
Jean-Paul Boëtius and Isac Lidberg embarked on international duty, while the Lilies prepared in Darmstadt for their upcoming match against Magdeburg next Sunday (October 19th, 1:30pm). In addition, four young Lilies from the youth academy gained valuable experience with their junior national teams. You can read about this and much more in our "Lilien Across the Board" section.
+++ Boëtius prepares and scores important points +++
Jean-Paul Boëtius earned valuable playing time for the Suriname national team and played a key role in his team successfully defending first place in their World Cup qualifying group. On Friday (October 10th), „Djanga“ and his team faced Guatemala. After trailing in the 76th minute, the Darmstadt native’s substitution after 86 minutes brought new momentum to the game. He set up the crucial equaliser in stoppage time – the final score: 1-1.
„Djanga“ also played in the second match against Panama – this time coming on as a substitute in the 66th minute. Suriname led 1-0 for a long time in this match, but conceded the equaliser deep into stoppage time. Nevertheless, an important point: After four matches, Suriname remains at the top of the qualifying group. The two upcoming matches in November against Guatemala and El Salvador will decide whether Boëtius and Suriname will qualify directly for the 2026 World Cup in the USA.
+++ Without Lidberg: Sweden loses twice +++
A special highlight awaited Isac Lidberg during the last international break: The striker was called up to the Swedish national team and traveled with the team to face Switzerland and Kosovo. While he didn’t play, he gained valuable experience with the „Blågult.“
The match in Stockholm ended disappointingly from a Swedish perspective – Sweden lost 2-0 to Switzerland. With the 0-1 loss against Kosovo, the Swedish national team slipped to last place in the table. Despite the result, Lidberg’s call-up was a strong sign of his continued strong performances in the club jersey.
The invitation to the national team should give the attacker additional motivation for his upcoming challenges in his daily club life.
+++ "Now the focus is completely on Magdeburg" +++
International break = free time? Partly, partly. After a tough week of training, Florian Kohfeldt treated his team to a few days off. But the work didn’t stop even on the days off, as Fraser Hornby explained in a media briefing on Wednesday (October 15th). „I like doing things that help me stay healthy and fit – that’s especially important as a professional footballer. Now the focus is entirely on Magdeburg,“ emphasised the Lilies‘ number nine.
The league table situation, by the way, will play no role on Sunday (October 19th, 1:30pm). „Even though Magdeburg is currently at the bottom of the table, you can see in their games that they create a lot of chances. Their position doesn’t necessarily reflect their performance. It will be a difficult game, but we’re primarily focused on our own performance and want to get the best out of ourselves,“ said the Scot. According to Hornby, no additional motivation is necessary: “We go into every game with the goal of winning. Some players are new to the team, but everyone’s attitude is the same: We want to win every game. We’ll try to do that this weekend, too.“
+++ Junglilies international +++
Several players from SV Darmstadt 98’s youth academy have gained valuable international experience in recent days. Diogo Dos Santos Pereira (U19) played for Luxembourg’s U19 national team in European Championship qualifiers, while Gentrit Hetemaj (U19) also participated in the European Championship qualifiers for Kosovo’s U19 team. Lilien talents were also represented on the German side: Manolo Merx (U19) received an invitation to the U18 German national team’s training camp, as did Giulio Weitz (U15), who participated in the U15 German national team’s training camp. SV Darmstadt 98 is proud of the nominations of its young players.
+++ U21 ahead of away mission in Fernwald +++
This coming Saturday (October 18th) is the next away game for the SV Darmstadt 98 U21 team in the LOTTO Hessenliga. At 3pm, the Young Lilies will host FSV Fernwald, who currently sit 14th in the table with eleven points and are fighting for crucial points in their fight to avoid relegation. The situation promises to be an exciting match, with both teams desperate to take home some points.
The Young Lilies, on the other hand, are in seventh place with 20 points, but must first recover from last weekend’s 5-0 defeat. In Fernwald, the SV 98 U21 team can expect an intense game that will require patience, tackling, and efficiency. For the Young Lilies, the match offers a chance to further establish themselves in the middle half of the table and extend their lead over the lower places. Kick-off on Saturday is at 3pm in Fernwald.
+++ Liberation for the Lilien fan team +++
SV98’s „second team“ showed a strong response to recent mixed results in the Kreisliga B last matchday. In their away game against SV Weiterstadt, the Lilies managed a 5-3 victory. A win that not only earned them three points but also gave them renewed confidence. With this successful performance, the SV Darmstadt 98 fan base climbed to eleventh place in the table and now has eleven points from eleven matches. While the goal difference of 25:42 still shows room for improvement in defence, the offense has been significantly more lively recently. The win in Weiterstadt should give the Lilies new momentum for their upcoming home game against SG Arheilgen II. The match is scheduled for this Wednesday evening (October 15th) at 7:30pm at Ostendstraße in Pfungstadt.
