SV 98 calls for participation in the election: Lilien play their home game in special jerseys
On the occasion of the approaching federal election on Sunday (February 23rd), SV Darmstadt 98 will wear a special jersey against FC Schalke 04. Under the motto “Choose democracy. Against exclusion and racism”, which will adorn the chest of the Lilies on the 23rd matchday, the club calls on people to make use of their democratic rights and to take part in the election.
In a few days there will not only be a home game for the Lilies, but also an election – an important moment for the future of our country. As a registered association whose statutory purpose is to act as a connecting element between people of different nationalities, cultures and religions as well as people with and without disabilities, SV 98 would like as many people as possible to take part in this election and cast their vote.
Sport thrives on diversity, team spirit and fair cooperation. We defend these values not only in the stadium, but also in society. As a visible sign of this commitment, the Lilies will wear a special jersey.
Darmstadt 98 is party-politically neutral, this is stipulated in our statutes. But common values are also firmly anchored in both the statutes and the mission statement. As the Lily family, we focus on this every day, not just on special occasions such as the upcoming elections.
“The club resolutely opposes racist, anti-constitutional and xenophobic efforts and other discriminatory or inhumane behaviour,” says the SV 98 club statutes. Our club and our society thrive on diversity. Democracy, tolerance and respect are non-negotiable for us.
Especially in times of social challenges, it is more important than ever to promote unity and good cooperation. We therefore call on all people to use their voice for an open, democratic society.
The special jerseys cannot be purchased. The matchworn jerseys will be auctioned off after the game. The proceeds will benefit the “Bölle makes education” Learning Place Stadium project. Throughout the year, school classes are guests at the Böllenfalltor during “Bölle Macht Education” to discuss democracy and experience the unifying effect of sport up close.
