Third home win in a row!
The Lilies won again at the Merck Stadium at Böllenfalltor, collecting three crucial points! SV 98 fought back to a 1-0 (0-0) victory in their home match against SpVgg Greuther Fürth. In a game largely lacking chances, Lidberg (79th) emerged as the match winner. With the win, the South Hesse side improve their points tally to 34.
The Lilies started with effort and pressure: Defensively, they disrupted their opponents early on, while attacking them purposefully tried to get in front of the opposing goal. Although the home side enjoyed a high share of possession, this didn’t result in any real chances. The Cloverleaf team only gained a bit more possession after 20 minutes, but even then, SV 98’s defence was barely tested. This resulted in an overall disjointed game, played mainly between the penalty areas. The spectators at the Merck Stadium at Böllenfalltor didn’t see any real scoring opportunities in the first 45 minutes.
After the restart, however, SVD had their first good opportunity: Förster curled a free kick from 18 meters, but Fürth keeper Noll palmed the shot over the bar on 49 minutes. Shortly afterwards, Hornby had another free kick from a similar distance, but it sailed wide – as did a Corredor header 10 minutes into the half. The game subsequently lost momentum, also marked by several injury interruptions. In the 73rd minute, a huge opportunity arose to make it 1-0: Lidberg headed a cross towards goal, but Noll reacted brilliantly. The Lilies kept up the pressure and were closer to taking the lead. And they were rewarded for their efforts: Boetius played a dream pass to Lidberg, who slotted the ball past Fürth’s goalkeeper with 11 minutes remaining. The assist provider could have increased the lead in the 84th minute, but missed from a central position.
