Training start for the professionals | Euros in Full Swing

It will soon be sweating again on the 98er training ground. The Lilien players return to the Böllenfalltor on Thursday and Friday for medical checks and performance tests, and on Saturday (June 22nd) the first public session awaits coach Torsten Lieberknecht’s boys on the pitch. The ball has been rolling at the European Championships in Germany since last Friday (June 14th). We asked our boys for their tips for the game between Germany and Hungary and also looked at how much Darmstadt 98 has in the European Championship. You can find out all this in our weekly section “Lilies across the Board”.

+++ Professionals back at the Bölle +++

SV Darmstadt 98’s last game against Borussia Dortmund was a good month ago, and preparations for the coming second division season have now begun. Lilien coach Torsten Lieberknecht asks his team for medical checks and performance tests on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday the ball will roll on the training pitch for the first time. The first session of the new season will be public and starts at 11am. On Monday (June 24th) the team will set off for their first training camp of this summer preparation, and the Lilies will be staying at the Hotel Sonnenhof in Lautenbach until Friday (June 28th). Just one day later (June 29th/1pm) the first test match of the summer is coming up, for which the 98ers will be guests at SpVgg Hainstadt.

+++ Germany vs. Hungary: Predictions from the Lads +++

The start of the home European Championship was a complete success for the German national team, with national coach Julian Nagelsmann’s team beating Scotland 5-1. The next hurdle is on Wednesday evening (June 19/6pm), when the national team will face Hungary in Stuttgart. After the brilliant victory, the mood throughout Germany is noticeably good, and our boys also firmly believe in the German team. „3 goals. 3 points. 3 delicious beers“ is the motto of captain Fabi Holland, who we asked on Instagram for his tip. The Lilien players always tip Musiala and Füllkrug as goal scorers, but Havertz and Gündogan are also very popular. But everyone agrees 100 percent on one thing: the second win in the second game against Hungary! The tips from the Lily professionals at a glance:

Player Prediction for Germany v Hungary
Fabian Holland 3:0
Paul Will 3:0
Fynn Lakenmacher 3:0
Tobias Kempe 2:0
Clemens Riedel 2:0
Luca Marseiler 2:0
Alex Brunst 3:0
Marvin Mehlem 3:0
Marcel Schuhen 3:1
Fabian Nürnberger 5:1

+++ There is so much SVD in the Euros +++

The European Championships have been running since last weekend, and from a German perspective the start could hardly have been better. We took a closer look at how much Darmstadt 98 has in the home European Championship. Klaus Gjasula is playing with the Albanian national team in the tough group stage: Albania meets Italy, Croatia and Spain in Group B. Former SVD player Laszlo Kleinheisler is also still playing. The Hungarian and his team will still face the German selection. In the first group game against Switzerland, Kleinheisler came on as a substitute in the 67th minute, but was unable to prevent the 3-1 defeat. Sandro Wagner and Hamit Altintop are no longer active on the pitch, but are still there. The German-Turkish former midfielder is now on the board of the Turkish Football Association. “On a good day we can annoy the big guys,” said the former Real Madrid and Lilien professional recently. The fourth in the group is Sandro Wagner, the former striker is assistant coach of the German national team under Julian Nagelsmann, and he laced up his football boots for SVD in the 2015/16 season.

+++ Happy Birthday, Matthias Bader +++

This week we have another birthday boy in our ranks, Lilien defender Matthias Bader turned 27 on Monday (June 17th). The Pforzheim native has been wearing the Lily jersey since 2020. The right-footed player came to southern Hesse from 1. FC Cologne and has played 113 games for SVD so far. Matze, we wish you all the best on your special day and look forward to the coming season with you!

+++ Hardworking Lily gardeners +++

The flower bed on Karl-Hess-Platz in front of the Merck Stadium at the Böllenfalltor shines with new freshness. Sabine Schmidt’s team of volunteer Lily gardeners replanted the area in front of the north-west entrance, and bees and bumblebees have already been spotted on the bed. We would like to thank you very much for the new planting and are pleased about the visual improvement.

Disappointment & pride

Darmstadt's 2-1 defeat at Karlsruher SC also ended any remaining theoretical hopes the South Hessian club had of finishing the season in the top three. The loss at the Wildpark stadium served somewhat as a symbol for the past few weeks, during which SV 98 had only managed one point from five matches since the international break in March. Following the game on Sunday afternoon, the Darmstadt players addressed the assembled media representatives with mixed feelings.

Three points! SV Darmstadt 98's U21 team secured a victory in the Lotto Hessenliga on Saturday afternoon (May 2nd). In their match against Hünfelder SV, the young Lilies overcame an early deficit to clinch a convincing 3-1 win. This result puts the U21 team currently outside the relegation zone. „We must take the lead in the first half.“

A bitter end in Karlsruhe: After 90 entertaining minutes in which both teams sought salvation in attack, Darmstadt suffered a narrow defeat. The final score was 2-1 after a late goal from the home side, following Isac Lidberg's earlier equaliser. After the match, the players were particularly frustrated with the missed opportunities in the first half.
