Transfer News: Lilies sign Sickinger
SV 98 will welcome a new face at their training camp in Bad Wörishofen. The Lilies have signed Carlo Sickinger from SV Elversberg.
Paul Fernie: “With Carlo, we’re filling the vacancy in defensive midfield left by Paul Will’s departure. He has a keen sense of positioning, a clean passing game, and combines a good mix of strategic elements as a structuring force with defensive stability. He also has experience in the 2. Bundesliga and will quickly settle in with us thanks to his personality. We’re delighted that he was able to join us at the start of our training camp.”
Carlo Sickinger: “I’m looking forward to wearing the Lily on my chest in the future. In our discussions, I quickly realised that the club, with its family atmosphere, is a great fit for me. Now it’s about using the days at training camp to integrate into the team as quickly as possible and internalise the tactical concepts.”
Sickinger was developed in the youth academies of SV Sandhausen and 1. FC Kaiserslautern. The 28-year-old also signed his first professional contract with Kaiserslautern. For Kaiserslautern, the Karlsruhe native made 63 appearances for the reserve team and 94 for the first team, where he was appointed captain in November 2019.
In 2021, Sickinger signed with SV Sandhausen before joining SV Elversberg on loan in January 2022. After the loan ended, the right-footed player was signed permanently by the Saarland club and went on to make a total of 115 appearances for Elversberg. Sickinger celebrated three promotions with Elversberg, including promotion to the Bundesliga last season.
He will wear the number 23 jersey for Darmstadt.
